The engine was being turned the wrong way, and the wrong marks on the cam gears were set/used. I don't think that I've ever seen such an oil change neglected 2JZ this bad before... That's impressive. Well.... Best of luck with that engine.

@@jakoooob2521 I have the 2JZGTE VVT-i Aristo engine in my garage that's going into my '91 A70, and I must say when I first took the valve covers off - it did look a little neglected on oil changes. By no means was it bad. I have seen other videos from people who got the same engine for projects, and I must say - as of right now I seemed to have lucked out. I'd say the engine has roughly 100K miles on it; ROUGHLY. Sadly the engine in this video looks like one of the owners hated their car (not the poster of the video), and didn't believe in oil changes at all.

How do you adjust that adjustable cam gear
@ruleroftheundersky5703 жыл бұрын
If you time the engine right the new/old VVT gear should turn/rotate "right" into place; as long as the notched line is used, and not the dot. I'm sure this is not relevant anymore, but I just felt like replying anyway.
@hamzaray57013 жыл бұрын
@@ruleroftheundersky570 can/how can you improve performance with this when you can time the same way with your oem gear
@ruleroftheundersky5703 жыл бұрын
@@hamzaray5701 If you're trying to get performance out of a VVT engine the safest bet is to tune it with an aftermarket ECU that supports it. What gains could be had - I don't have the answer. Due to the nature of the limitations the VVT cam gears degree of rotation has I'm pretty sure not much can be done on an old JZ with VVT-i; if at all. I don't think it wise to manually advance/retard it. A lot goes into it. Such as if the cam/valves, etc has been changed or not. Every video I've seen of people timing the VVT gear on a JZ always put it back to factory spec. I'd follow that example. I am with my engine going into my Supra. Sorry if I read your comment wrong, and answered poorly.
