Installing CRUISE CONTROL on an FJ CRUISER Base Model

Come along as I install cruise control on this base model FJ Cruiser using all factory-style components.
If you'd like to do this install as well, you can order a switch similar to the one I used in the video and pick up two short "M5-0.8" screws from the hardware store OR you can poke around on ebay and try to find one that comes with screws like I did.

Another great vid! I just finished adding CC to my '07 FJ. I didn't have to trim those tabs after de-pinning the wires. Those little tabs weren't an issue when inserting the red & blk wires into the blk connecter. Just make sure you push the blk & red wires all the way into the blk connector. 👍

This worked on my 07 MT base model. Install was quick and easy, the cruise control works great. I see in the comments someone had issues with getting it to work with their manual transmission. Mine works fine but when I push in the clutch it turns off the cruise control and I have to re-set it in the new gear. The wires attached to my switch didn't have those little tabs you had to remove, so it was even easier.

That's the way it's supposed to work. Even on my 997 Porsche, when I push in the clutch, the cruise disconnects. Saves damaging the clutch and/or transmission.

Nice job. I'm still amazed that vehicles made after 1990 don't all come standard with cruise. It's such a simple inexpensive thing on the dealer's part. But nice work adding that to your rig.

I'm with you, especially now that almost, if not all cars are manufactured with a "drive by wire" gas pedal where the cars throttle is controlled by the computer. Guess it's just one more reason for dealers to charge more on upgrade packages..

It makes the car cheaper, all makes try to find a way to save a penny. It seems inexpensive for you, but image having to do it to one million cars, so they just cut costs there. Not saying it's good, that's just what it is

And now i think i have to sale it because usually i like American car just this time I bought Toyota and i only like fj because it made in usa mu car it only have 45000 km it 2013 but steal new because I bought it from oil company so i would like to have it longe time but as you say i became old man so i need cruise controller

Hi i have a toyota Landcruiser Prado 2005 V4 Auto transmission and i did the same way you did it and it didn't work though i have the cruise icon light on my dash.whats does it seems to be the issue?

my 2013 FJ didnt come with a Cruise Control as well, and i didnt know that its that easy to install.

Hi, So did you have to modify or replace the pins from the switch to fit into the connector? That part of the video wasn't too clear to me.

No, I did not need to modify the pins. Just removed the pins from one connector and slid them into the other.

thanks! my 2011 Just needed the switch and 2 wire harness that comes with it... bottom row is blue(factory) red, black (cruise).... ordered from amazon (keenso / sunfay) oem# 84632-34011 $25.69 CAD looks exactly like this.... pins in harness worked without modification tho.. otherwise just like the video shows... no need to run a wire down to the kick panel. i had other wires in the steering wheel harness (more than just the blue shown here) but they were radio controls/bluetooth phone controls..... the blue wire was a ground from the airbag/horn.

cruise on toyota's seems to almost enable something in the computer to improve gas mileage (eco feature?) either way, definite improvement in gas mileage with cruise engaged....and yes, before install Ive been very careful for a few years in my attempts to get decent gas mileage on long drives and the difference was still obvious.. this upgrade paid for itself in just a few long trips

Great to hear. I usually get better mileage using cruise control too, I always assumed it’s because cruise keeps the rpms more consistent and raises rpm more gradually than you typically do with your foot

@@dironaa I got my gas mileage reliable to within just a couple percent week after week... Nice flat even speed highway mind numbing daily commute...I'm getting roughly 10%+ improvement (35+ miles/tank easily)

Also, we’re you able to find the factory CC panel piece? How much did that run? I saw one website advertised >$100 for it and thought that was absurd. Thanks for your video!!

I intended to, but never bought the factory panel. I stopped thinking about the fact that it was missing almost immediately lol. At this point I would probably choose to drill a hole in the old panel rather than order the cruise control specific one.

Dear i am from saudi arabia and i have fj manual and i fix the same you way in oem cable but not work with me and there is no sign in the panel there is connection between the clutch and the Cruise Control Switch if you press the clutch it will stop mybe that missing i have 2013 just now I bought it before i have crown vict 2012 really i miss it it have everything man please if you found method to fix it please tell me

So the you installed cruise control and it doesn't work at all or you installed cruise control and it turns off when you press the clutch?

No it did not work and there is no sign in the dash panel for cruise controls it base manual gear but I heard the is also connection between the cruise controller and the clutch if you fix it it will work but you will have sign in the dash panel check engine so any one now how to fix it for manual gear the is some technical connection missing in this video his car not base fj

The FJ in this video has a manual transmission and I didn't need to do anything with the clutch, just plugged the wires into the steering wheel and it worked. This FJ is a US model so maybe the wiring is set up differently between here and Saudi Arabia. If I were in you, the next thing I'd do is try to get my hands on a Factory Service Manual with wiring diagrams and try to make sure the right wires are lined up

Nothing mansions in the manual book there is no instructions from where i get the manual connection my car made in japan i see when you connected the cruise controls there is sign appear in the dash panel but i dont have that sign even i open the light trying to check there is icon there but not there i means there is no indication lamp in the dash panel code

rashed did you ever figure out how to get yours to work? I just installed Cruise control in my base 2007 USA automatic FJ. I used a junkyard part. I’m not getting the dash cruise light or the functionality. Not sure if it’s a faulty part or if I’m missing something. I double checked all connections and install and it seems to be correct.

10 years ago I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly, but apparently I'm turning into an old man. Helps keep me out of trouble with johnny law...sometimes that right foot has a bad habit of finding its way to the floor LOL. Plus it helps give the foot a rest on the occasional 12 hr highway driving day...did close 1000 miles last Friday and was sure glad to have it.
