This is the Dryden Monitor 17 Series Trim Kit. You can call Delta for a better description of what distinguishes the 17 series vs others. But for this video, the important note is the use of the Delta Multichoice Valve Body.
This Trim Kit: amzn.to/2vJVjjo
We wanted to go with a trim kit that allowed us to set a desired temp, and then still be able to turn water on and off without having to reset the temp all the time. So that got us two valve handles. We chose the square pattern trim plates and shower heads just as a style we liked.
Delta makes this very user friendly with the multichoice valve body. You can rough in the valve body as we did here, months ago, and then take some time picking your trim kit as the project evolves. It also let's you easily change out trim kits later if you choose without having to replace the whole mixing valve assembly.
Install is very straightforward as shown in this video. Just be advised, the directions will have some duplicate information to satisfy other trim kits too.

@TomBrueggen
@TomBrueggen 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t recall all the details but the multichoice valve body came with some basic rough-in instructions. You have to estimate your hardi backer and tile thickness to know how much to let your valve stick out past the studs. The collar on the trim kit gives you a good bit of leeway on this. I think I assumed something like an inch worth or hardi board and tile, and it worked out fine. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

@Bug a Bug Pest Extermination: sorry I accidentally deleted your comment! If your water temps are backwards and it’s a new install it may be that you water lines are hooked up backwards. However if you’re just replacing the cartridge or trim kit and it used to be normal, then it’s possible your new cartridge is upside down.

I have a huge gap in my new T17476 trim kit. Delta tech support is clueless. It has nothing to do with how the cartridge is mounted, since it's the SAME GAP as when all the parts are together sitting in my hand. It's just poor design as the last white plastic piece does NOT recess far enough into the plastic handle !

The trim piece on the handle just snaps on. The main big plate against the tile has two screws, at least mine does. The collar that slips over the cartridge and valve body just slides on over an o-ring

I know that you can adjust the valve to make the water colder or warmer. I think it has an anti scalding valve. do you know how to make the water warmer?When my plumber installed it he did not check it because on shower is warmer than the other. Thanks
@TomBrueggen
@TomBrueggen 3 жыл бұрын
There is a rotating notched stop disc inside that you just have to rotate one way or the other. It’s marked H/C. I believe you rotate it all the way towards the H which lets the valve open more to the hot side. If that doesn’t work then go the other way. I set mine wide open to max hot when I install them, and then control the temp through the valve like a sensible adult 😁. On our kids’ bathtub I did set it lower. It has a good purpose, but often folks don’t adjust them for the right situation.

@TomBrueggen
@TomBrueggen 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t think I made one specifically on the rough in, other than the general video about roughing in the plumbing. I may have shown the multi choice valve body rough in there. I struggled a little bit on the rough in depth, but in hindsight, most trim kits have a generous collar to cover the valve sticking out, so I don’t think depth is too critical.

@TomBrueggen
@TomBrueggen 4 жыл бұрын
The rough in was deltas “universal” body. Should work with all of their new trim kits and valves after a certain year. Can’t recall what year that was. What matters is matching up the valve itself to the trim kit. Sometimes there is also a plug/clip on the back of the valve when you buy a new one. Make sure you remove that.

My trim sleeve is too short for the body. Are there different lengths?
@TomBrueggen
@TomBrueggen 4 жыл бұрын
Umm...perhaps? But I think mine is a bit short also. The trim sleeve is held in place the o-ring on the body. So you slide it over the o-ring and then just ease it back. I don’t think it’s suppose to tag the base of the valve, it’s supposed to go just as deep as you need for a clean fit. If you mount your valve body too deep then the sleeve might seem to short perhaps.
@rulinghabs
@rulinghabs 4 жыл бұрын

At 5:03 you are talking about an o-ring. What o-ring? There is no o-ring there. There is another o-ring that is enormously larger that fits on top of the silver threaded nut and under the larger unthreaded silver sleeve, but there is no o-ring under the silver threaded nut.
@TomBrueggen
@TomBrueggen 6 жыл бұрын
There is an o-ring on the valve mechanism where it slides into the rough in valve body. It keeps water from wanting to leak out around the valve body. Unless I'm mistake or yours is missing. I put my finger on it in the video. You're thinking of the bigger o-ring that goes around the outside of the valve body under the trim sleeve to keep moisture from getting back inside the wall. Not sure what you are calling the silver threaded nut.
@bluenetmarketing
@bluenetmarketing 6 жыл бұрын
Nope, mine didn't have an o-ring there. I have the Lahara 17 series. I couldn't believe that none of the big box stores carry any of the shower faucets that control temperature and volume flow, only temperature control. That's like what you find in a cheap motel. It also wastes a heck of a lot of water without having the volume flow control like the old style round crystal handles they used to sell. They restrict our toilet tank size but then waste water with the mono-functional shower valves. What is wrong with our society? Glad to hear you carry too.
@TomBrueggen
@TomBrueggen 6 жыл бұрын
bluenetmarketing as much as I’d like to buy local, I think we bought our mixing valve trim kits on amazon. These kits do let you hold a temp set, but you do still have to let it run a while to get hot water. Im planning to do a hot water recirculating system in the next house. In the grand scheme of things I don’t suppose it saves all that much water, but will save time for sure. The pump will be programmed to start running about 5 min before I want a shower or have another need. Or so is the plan. I’m still trying to decide between that or point of use water heaters or on-demand system.
@bluenetmarketing
@bluenetmarketing 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I bought mine online at Lowes.com. The point I was making with water usage is, today's store bought shower faucets run full blast water flow, so everyone us using maximum water when showering, one of the most expensive water usage tasks we do. If they would normally stock the volume flow valves like they used to, we'd all be using a lot less water. I really don't give a damn if I have to wait a little longer for the temperature to come up. People are so damned lazy and narcissistic about things that don't matter (definitely not talking about you here). I have heard a lot about reliability problems on the point of use heaters. Good luck to you.
@TomBrueggen
@TomBrueggen 6 жыл бұрын
Well I won't lie, I do enjoy a good long hot shower sometimes, with high flow rate too. But the norm is a luke-warm, dive in and out sort of deal. Take my rare luxury when I can get it. Point of use water heater would definitely be a last option, and only for a remote point, like a bathroom sink on the opposite side of the house from WH. They usually only have like a 2 gal tank. Can't run a shower off that! A loop seems the best. On-demand units are good compared to a tank heating up, then cooling down a bit over and over until it's used. But still have to run out the cold water for a bit until the heated water gets to the spigot. I'm leaning more and more towards just a recirculating pump and very well insulated hot water lines, so you don't lose too much heat when water is just sitting in the lines.

@TomBrueggen
@TomBrueggen 6 жыл бұрын
03750Rick if you have the universal multi choice valve body in the wall, then any newer model delta mixing valve should work. Just have to make sure you get a mixing valve that works with your trim kit. That’s what I was referring to as the “series”. I have a 17 series trim kit.
