I really like all your videos, especially all the plumbing, shower, bathtub installs since it is the least of projects I've worked on. Built sheds, numerous decks with treated and composite lumber, all household projects, installing dishwashers, hot water heaters, etc. Anyway, just for reference in this video you call the tub spout/faucet a Spigot. Just for General Principle, spigots are usually designated as being outdoors or on the exterior of a house. Keep up the good work buddy and God Bless!

Hi again a great video bro! I hate to be pessimistic but a true pro learns every day new things & I hope you appreciate correcting you on some minor things that I think you could correct in the future First, from the mixing valve to the tub spout you should not use ½ pex because it is really restricting the water flow & can cause water to drip from the shower head, rather use copper or ¾ pex Second, the square plastic guard that comes with the valve should be cut out in the tub [not just the round hole] because you need access for the screws for the trim & for the small shut-off valves on the sides & lastly I would not use galvanized nippel for the stub out as the rust rather use copper or brass & again I hope you take it the right way I really enjoy watching your videos & as somebody who is in the trades appreciate when people correct me when they see that I can do something differently that's what makes us better every day Keep up with your awesome work

Question If I am converting a tub/shower combo to walk in shower, can I just cap the tub port on combo valve or do I need to change out the valve to shower only? Thanks,
@MyFortressConstruction3 ай бұрын
@@ShootingG1 This is a late reply, but a tub functions by just pulling on the spout stop to force water to the showerhead, so when you close off that line it will just be permanently routing water to the showerhead. So, just cut it as close to the valve as you can (so you don't have funky stuff growing in that un-used line) and solder or crimp a close onto it.

Good situational awareness; good product familarity; good speed of delivery, and easy to understan. I like it. Suggest copper tub spout drop. suggest brass nipple for tub spout connection, other wise very good, and thank you.
@stellr3 ай бұрын
The manual says to use a cooper tub drop. Why is that? Curious
@MyFortressConstruction3 ай бұрын
@@stellr Pex is too restrictive on that drop, so what can happen is, as you fill the tub, the water slowly backs up to the shower head and you will have water coming out of your showerhead while the tub fills. With copper it allows more flow and so that doesn't happen. It's really just a nuisance and not the end of the world, but people should be aware.

Just a note to people using PEX. The Delta R10000 manual says to use only copper or iron pipe to the tub spout with just one 90 degree bend. It says to NOT use pex to the tub spout. Apparently if you use pex, when you run water to the tub spout, water might come out of the showerhead. Just a heads up that that is what Delta says about pex to tub spout. You can always try pex and if water comes out the showerhead when you run the bath either live with (I mean, what's he big deal if it's your own home right?) or understand that that is probably why it's happening.

Doesn't the PEX to the tub spout need to be at least 3/4 Pex OR 1/2 copper?
@think41c3 жыл бұрын
Yep. Delta instructions say Pex is not allowed at all for the tub spout connection and 1/2 copper should be used. I've heard people using 3/4 Pex for tub spouts and that being a decent work around though, but instructions are very clear to not use pex for tub spouts.
@jamieperkins87962 жыл бұрын
Yup should of used copper
@tobrien8712 жыл бұрын
Pex-A has a larger internal diameter than Pex-B (B is what is used in the video). Delta recommends if you use Pex-A to the tub spout that you do NOT put in a 90 deg. fitting, but do a radius turn on the Pex. This is to avoid the water restriction that can occur. Also, in the video Josh aligns the black plastic mud ring with the back of the shower unit. For a thin shower wall with no ribbing behind it, it's not a problem, but some shower walls have considerable ribbing in the back and therefore this would not work. You would need to cut a larger hole so the mud ring can penetrate upon installation of the wall. This will also allow the trim screws to go thru, assuming you trim kit uses them. Am I right on all this, folks?

Any issues with pex on tub spout instead of the recommended copper on the R 1000? Josh your a huge help thanks. Followed your way. Just wanna confirm.
@MyFortressConstruction3 ай бұрын
Yeah, you'll get backed up water coming out of your shower head. The valve is fed by two 1/2" pex lines and those two supply more than a 1/2" line can carry down to the tub. So, if you are filling up your tub you might notice some water coming out of your showerhead (just drips usually) while you fill it. Copper has a greated ID than pex so it can handle the flow of the valve and won't back up.

The pressure on my spout and shower is low for delta portwood. I think it uses same valvle. Anything that I can do to increase the pressure?
@johnm38452 жыл бұрын
I found that to be an issue when I did a delta valve. I had to increase the hot water adjuster on the center of the valve. I think it's to prevent scalding but when I turned it up all the way to allow maximum hot water to enter the valve, then the water pressure was better. I don't think that function of the valve necessary since you can adjust how hot your water gets on the water heater.
