I am thinking about putting a set of these door handles on my 68 chevelle, wanted to see how difficult they were to install. Thanks for video education.

I sure am glad you posted this video of those Dave Kindig door handles. I was thinking about putting those on my '66 but now I don't think so. I am an amature fabricator/restorer and this may be above my skill level.

So does the handles come with some type mechanism to adapt to your door opener or do you have to make your own.. I mean for 600 bucks for a door handle I hope to God they do.
@AllisonCustoms10 ай бұрын
They do not, you need to fabricate the parts to push on your factory door latch system. It is fairly easy to do, but does take a little experimenting.

U know them modern door handles the ones where u can unlock them with your remote key and open them without having to put a key in it can I install those in my 1968 charger?
@AllisonCustoms3 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge the door handles that you are thinking of, are all RFD controlled. I’m sure it could be done, but you would need everything associated with the controls. There are plenty of aftermarket RFD controls on the market and I have tried some of those with differing amounts of success.

How many labor hours did it take to complete. Total process
@AllisonCustoms Жыл бұрын
It’s about 4 hours on the first side, less on the second - just for the door handle. Removing dents or replacing a skin will add to that.

I would ask why didn't you flatten out the door skin before installing the new door skin on the shell
@AllisonCustoms5 жыл бұрын
That’s a fair question. The answer is very simple, I was so focused on skinning the one door, I never thought to stop and flatten the metal out. I would also be concerned that a person could take the curvature out of the skin so it would need to be done carefully. The other door was a complete replacement door, so it wasn’t an option on the that side anyway. Thanks for the question, Happy Holidays!

Is the new handle waterproof? I live out east.

It does have a few small open areas that are not covered or sealed. They are small and I suspect someone could cover everything with a rubber boot or something similar.

This handles should of came with a metal cut out that u can just cut a square and weld
@AllisonCustoms6 жыл бұрын
That might work with some vehicles, but many would require so much work to the “patch panel” that it would be more time consuming. Probably a wash either way, generally speaking. It’s definitely a thought though - you could make one from the pattern and then weld it in. I can tell you the second door went much quicker.
