Installing Fog Lights on 8th Gen Civic

In this video I’m going to show to show you how to wire up fog lights on an 8th gen Honda Civic. After watching this video you will know how to diagnose issues, install, and wire up your own fog lights.

Very detailed video. I have an EX sedan that did not come with foglights and want to install them. I have a kit I got from Amazon and was wondering if I would need use a fuse tap at all for the interior fuse panel of the car.

Thank you, I appreciate you watching. It’s up to you, but it’s not required. I ran the power off the battery and prefer to be able to control my fog lights solely off the switch so I can run them with high beams on for example.

@@inspiringbuilds I must have a different harness from you. I have two little connectors coming from what I believe is the fuse but the other end of those connectors go to the green connector for button as well as a black ground wire and relay.

@@dauntlessdom5926 we used the exact harness in the video - we had to run a fuse tap. we just cut the power wire and added a few feet of wire and ran it inside the car along with the switch wire and then used a fuse tap to add it to the acc/radio fuse. its the only way we could get the light to go off on the switch when the lights were turned off.

That’s awesome, nice work! In regards to the switch it’s normal to have power, but the light should be off when pressed and turned off and green when pressed and turned on.

Hey I really liked the video, very informative and clear! I’m still new to this but in my harness, I have a orange wire along with my ground and live wire(labeled batt) next to the relay. It’s labeled “acc” which I assume it’s accessories, from what I gathered from the other comments you decided not to instal that wire so you can have it with the high beams. Can I leave the wire unplugged or do I have to plug it in, if so where? Thank you for the video

Thank you and welcome to the channel. It appears you have a different harness than the one in the description link that is plug and play. Mine came with a wire harness that plugged directly into the fog light switch. It appears you may not have a fog light switch included in your harness. If not just wire up the orange wire to the accessory switch to turn on the fog lights. 👍

Hey thanks for the reply! So I did some research and I was completely lost , I’m going to restart now that I know a bit more. So my harness is exactly the same to the one you used, the only difference is I have an acc wire. Do you have any suggestions where I can hook up the acc wire?

Adding on^ my kit has the switch for the fog lights, worse case I just don’t wire the acc and wire it up exactly like you do. I read from a forum about splicing into the acc wire in the ignition wires but I really don’t want to splice into factory wiring. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do? But regardless great video, I’ll definitely route through the wheel like you did!

Great video! Did you not have to use an add a fuse at all? I just installed my kit and it appears to be like yours but my fog light switch stays illuminated instead of turning off when the car is off.

Thank you, outside of the fuse with the kit I did not have to add another one. I wanted to control my fogs if the high beams are on for example. You can however add a fuse tap if you want them to come on when you power on/off the car.

@@dailydad6335 The fog light switch can be turned on or off. If it’s illuminated green it’s on. Push it one more time to turn it off so it’s not illuminated.

thank you for this question - we just installed fog lights with the exact wiring harness used in this video, and was having the same problem...and after way too long trying to figure it out, I referred back to this video and boom! You'd already asked the question and it was answered! Ran and got a fuse tap and solved the problem! Only wish I'd of seen this earlier though lol we tried putting it in the fuse box under the hood, but none of those would work so we had to take the wheel off and run it inside which was extra time, but it works great now!

Thanks for watching. If you don’t have any diagnostic work the install job is pretty simple and you can save a few hundred doing it yourself. It does look much better and adds visibility with the fog lights. 👍

Does it show the fog light indicator on the dash when they are on??

Thanks for watching Jose. On these cars the fog light indicator is located on the left side of the car with a button and when it is pushed in and turned on it does illuminate notifying you.

How do you wire it so the fog lights turn off when the highbeams come on; I need to do this to pass safety inspection in my state

Hi Ed, it may be best in your situation to wire the fog lights so they turn on with your low beams. Instead of wiring the switch you can tee into the power wire into your low beam headlights.

@@edmerife1399 I would recommend a tee like this below. amzn.to/3rGGBuG. All you have to do is pull the lever up, insert the stripped conductor and push the lever back down for a nice clean install.
