Installing GM cruise control in the wife's Dodge pickup.

Working on the wife's truck and installing cruise controller, first I'll show how to install a factory style GM cruise control. Then I work on the rear drive shaft in hopes to get the vibration out of the drive line.

Thanks for the cruise control hack, I to like to rest my foot. Also in the past had dry universal joints and the had a vibration just because it was tight .for lack of lub.

Brent, I found your channel by watching “Japhands”, he says hey! I have about 12 GM cruise models just like yours. They come with 2 part numbers, don’t know if there is a difference. I am a retired ASE Master Tech and depending on the trans, the “VSS” is not hard. It screws onto the trans old cable area. The use a metal 40 tone ring on the output shaft. Your schematic will show VSS-Hi, VSS-lo. Lo goes to ground inside the LS PCM. Hi signal is converted from digital on/off signal. It switches faster as you go. It simply changes ac to dc on / off. The 92-94 Camero/Firebird used the 700R4, but called the 4L60e. The drive gear in a TH350, TH400, TH200R4 are the same diameter (1 1/2”)? Remove tail housing, press-in clip, slide plastic gear off. A 2’ pipe with one square end with drive the tone ring on. Clean shaft first with nylon scuff pad, wipe with carb spray, and drive on until middle of speedo hole. Use the “F” body VSS sensor (Ring & Sensor cheap at Rock Auto) Get the two wire connector, solder wire to reach. Twist with drill 9 times per foot (8 is no ones looking) I include frame ground w/this harness and ground again at front. The PCM has input for both. On is dedicated to speedo only. Use it. I will have to check my schematics for rest, but sounds like you are on the way. Lt1swap.com has wiring online for your year but 2003 Tahoe/Silverado use DBW, Vans use cable and others 2002 down. Hit me up if more needed. I live in the big city in NE. I can’t build a lean-too without permit. Grew up on farm, build what you want! Neighbors can’t see it and I would love to have a shop. I have a tiny 1 1/2 car garage and 38+ years of tool boxes, MIG, Torch, Sandblast Cabinet, and wall of shelves. I need a proper shop. Subscribed today on 41st anniversary. We are not doing anything expect I a grilling fillet-Minion. Great stuff as I started on lawn mowers & metric motorcycles in the county, in late 60’s. Best of luck & will be watching!!!

Damn good looking truck, great job on the cruise good to know. I had a 69 Chevy Full size wagon and horrible noise in the transmission. In an apartment at the time and took the car to a shop. They told me it was the rear U Joint and I said they were nuts the noise is in the transmission. He was so confident he agreed to replace the rear U Joint if the noise is still there he would not charge me a dime. I was impressed, so let him go ahead and the rear joint was toast. no grease, dry, rusty and clearly failing. Noise was gone, I gave him a tip. Very Well done on the Dodge. the drive shaft noises can run from one end to the other and trick you. Nice old Dodge Cruiser. You have the best rides. Thank You for posting. D

If I get a vibration I start with the simple stuff. If I feel it in the steering wheel I check the front tires, if not I check the rear. A lot of times it's as simple as a balancing weight has fallen off. Good luck, and a nice bride ride.

Im not sure if you decided to connect the indicator light up on the cruise I know I would be lost with not having the light. Maybe just because Im old. Just seems in winter its a need to know if I am in control or out of control either way...ps awesome videos never miss one always looking forward to the next one. I was fabricating most of my life started wrenching & welding at 12 years old . Not so much anymore 66 now the arthritis took its toll. Only doing some wood working for friends and family.
