Installing GM-Style Tow Mirrors On My 2014 Toyota Tundra

In this video, I run through the process of getting GM-Style Tow Mirrors onto my 2014 Toyota Tundra Platinum CrewMax. IMPORTANT NOTE: These mirrors require MUCH more wiring than the Toyota-Style Tow Mirrors. If you're looking for a "plug-and-play" application, it is better to purchase the Toyota-Style Tow Mirrors. I put the same mirrors on my Tundra (with sequential turn lights from ebay) and LOVE them. They also pull further out when I tow my camper! One if the best upgrades you can do.

Thanks for watching, man! The door panel has to be removed in order to remove that little tweeter panel. Also, I only did half the job. In a few weeks, I will do the rest of the wiring (video part 2) and I will DEFINITELY have to remove the door panels for that.

Love it man. Quick question, I installed the same style mirrors on my 2021 tundra, the issues I had are the running lights at the back of the mirrors are not working and the blind spot monitor stayed on constantly. Anyone knows how to fix these issues please let me know.

Great vid and awesome truck. Have a question for you. My 2020 tundra has power mirrors with heat but no lights. Will I need to run wires for the running and turn signals for these mirrors?

Hey, Man! Thanks for watching. When you say 'lights,' I'm not sure if your talking about the signal indicators on the mirrors, or those amber lights on the back of them. I can tell you that if you buy the GM-style tow mirrors, there WILL definitely be extra wiring to do. When I put the mirrors on, I purposely skipped the extra wiring, but I will be doing that wiring video this year. The Toyota-style tow mirrors look pretty good and they are simply plug-and-play. I you do want the GM-style tow mirrors, there are a number of videos on KZbin showing how to install them based on the brand and the model you choose.

In this case, no. I'll have to fold them manually for now. There are tow mirrors with the auto-folding option, but I didn't want to spend another $200. (Yeah, I know ... I'm cheap). That's something I might add on a future truck. Thanks for watching the video!

I installed what looks like the same mirrors on my 2018 tundra which has heated mirrors and blind side alert. With my new mirrors my BSM and heat function don’t work. I haven’t install the 2 extra wires yet. Don’t know why these functions don’t work on the new mirrors.

Thanks for checking out the video. Yes, those mirrors can be a pain in the ass. I will be doing that extra wiring job soon. There are a number of videos on line that can help you figure it out. There are also slightly different ways to install those wires, based on your preferences. My heat does work, but not my BSM. Also, I've been tempted to just buy the Toyota tow mirrors. Those ARE simply plug-and-play and they have all the standard mirror features ... ... but I'm stubborn and I'll keep my GM-Style mirrors and see how they go. I can always keep the Toyota tow mirrors as a back up.

Unfortunately, no. This was the one time I felt lazy and did not want to record the process for wiring the lights (which is crazy because the brake-job took longer and I recorded that one). Luckily, there are 4 or 5 good videos on fully installing those GM-style mirrors on your Tundra (wiring and all). Sorry to disappoint you, man.

I did, BUT I didn't film the installation. The job itself took quite a bit of time, and filming it would have made it take twice as long. Thanks for watching the video. I'll be wiring up those tow-mirror reverse lights in May. I do everything in my garage at home and it's too cold right now (-25°C / -13°F). I'll be filming that job when I do it, so you'll be able to see it at some point.

The interior buttons work for turning the large mirrors in & out or up & down. As for folding, no. The mirrors that I bought are manual fold only. I'll upgrade them later.

Hello. I have 2017 plat tundra. I installed the same mirrors as yours. But my amber lights are not functioning. Do you know more as to why they are not working?

If you only plugged in the harness, then the ambers won't operate. There is extra wiring required for the ambers to work on the GM style tow mirrors. Type in "Tundra Tow Mirrors" in the KZbin search bar and you'll find a number of videos outlining the steps for the extra wiring. It's a bit of a job, so if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you can take it to a garage and have them do it for you.

I chose to go with the GM-Style tow mirrors, but you could also just go with the Toyota-style tow mirrors. They will be a quick and easy "plug-and-play" installation.

Do the tow mirrors still work with the automatic mirror shut button?

Thanks for watching the video. These particular mirrors do not fold automatically with the press of the mirror-fold button. These mirrors are basic (the type you would find on a work truck). I didn't feel that the extra $200 to $250 dollars was worth it for the power folding option. There are definitely some high-end tow mirrors that you can buy, and they come with ALL of the bells and whistles. I intentionally chose to go cheaper this time around. I hope that answer helps.

@@dorianwilliams698 Hey, Dorian. I've read many comments about that in other tow mirror install videos. To answer your question, no, my mirrors do not rattle on the highway. I think this is because 1) I installed them properly; and 2) they're constructed well enough. I'm not sure if this will change, but so far I have ZERO problems with my tow mirrors.

does your driver side mirror seem longer then the passenger side ?

No, mine is not longer, but the passenger side mirror is at a slightly more inward angle to compensate for being further away from the driver. That's the only difference. I suppose it's like an optical illusion. Due to that angle, the driver's side mirror looks longer than the passenger side mirror (from the front), but they ARE the same length. You'll find that most tow mirrors are made like that (to compensate for the difference in distance from the driver).

Aaaaah ... now I understand. Yes, the grille was grey at first. I painted it black. I don't have much video of painting it, but I can tell you how I painted it. - Lightly sanding the grille (800-grit sand paper) - 1 coat of primer - 2 coats of base (magnetic grey) - 4 coats of acrylic clear coat

Just bought a tundra with these... they get rid of one blind spot, but beware! They create 2 massive new blind spots behind the giant mirrors at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock. Be careful

Thanks for checking out the video. In general, the blinds spots created by the mirrors themselves are not a problem if the person behind the wheel is an "aware" driver. If you're not distracted behind the wheel, you'll be just fine with these mirrors. You'll see that once you get used to them. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

I just bought these mirrors based on this video. The mirrors are of questionable quality. One chrome cover was broken as well as one corner of the base. I managed to superglue the tip. I installed them and the front facing blinkers do not work. The company offered me $70 refund… and I asked for either a full refund or a replacement. Waiting for their response. If I don’t hear anything today. I’ll reach out to Amazon. What a let down. They also cause a blind spot when trying to see forward to maneuver. I might just get the OEM Toyota tow mirrors. They’re smaller but I’m sure far better quality even if used.

I'm sorry to hear you had issues with those mirrors. I've had zero problems with mine. Also, the front ambers won't work unless you do the full wire-job (which takes an afternoon). I will be fully-wiring mine up this spring or summer. I mentioned in the video that these are not exactly plug and play. I definitely recommend the Toyota Tow Mirrors for people who want a quick install.

@@toyotaFANatic81 yeah. Great channel. Love your enthusiasm. I got the StartX remote starter installed, the mirrors and the RC exhaust on Sunday. I should really make a video. Lujuntec send me a wiring diagram for the front blinkers. This weekend I’ll install the RC 6” lift and next week I’m getting my Black Rhino armory wheels. Later on March I should be getting the rack to go on top of the SofTopper.
