This was well worth the watch. I did the drivers side of my Hyundai Sante Fe and ran into so many of the same issues. Seeing how you dealt with it gave me some ideas about how the passenger side can be done easier. However, for the price, I just bought the control arm. Enjoyed seeing how you pressed the ball joints in, though. I did not have a pickle fork, and I'm definitely picking one up. I appreciate the links to all the other toys as well.

Does the control arm have to be off to put on the new ball joint?
@BruceLyeg7 жыл бұрын
Great video. I had a guy tell me that when you repeatedly click a torque wrench like that, it wears a flat spot on a ball in the end of the torque wrench. Not too sure about that but just thought I'd mention it. Thanks a lot for the how to video.

I believe the tool is made to click and I have not had a problem with it. My tools have a lifetime warranty so I don't worry about wear, though I don't abuse them. Thanks.
@BruceLyeg7 жыл бұрын
It is made to click. Hence the name "click type". However, you are only supposed to tighten till it clicks once, maybe twice. A lifetime warranty doesn't apply to torque wrench calibration though. Thanks
@richardlloydusa7 жыл бұрын
Actually mine does apply to calibration, I have returned one just for that reason. They gave me a new one off the shelf. Thanks.

Must be a Harbor Freight Torque wrench. How did you know the one you had was out of calibration?
@richardlloydusa7 жыл бұрын
It is a Harbor Freight torque wrench. I knew it was out when I was trying to torque my oil filter on at (11.5 Foot/lbs and it probably when to 30 ft/lbs before it clicked) way too tight. I will use my 1/4 wrench that measures inch/lbs next time and set it 138 inch/lbs. It will be far more accurate that the 1/2 wrench at nearly it's lowest setting. Thanks.

Hello I have a Hyundai santa fe from 2001, the movies are very helpful, but I don't understand everything (I'm from Poland). I have a big request if you could add subtitles to the movies (then I would understand a lot more) greetings

My 2006 Hyundai Tucson has the other type ball joint with just the one nut & the cotter key that goes through it . I'll look for the video again....

I'd like to be the guy who sells you penitrating oil lol

When it comes to penetrating oil my philosophy is If you have lots, use lots. If you don't have lots, use it all! LOL I use PB Blaster now Amazon(paid): amzn.to/3s6u1ll yes it's pricey but it works really well and as far as I'm concerned it's much cheaper than stripping nut/bolts and busting my knuckles. Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

Thank you Richard! It helps me a lot! Can you make a video showing how to change the fuel filter on hyundai Santa Fe? Again thank you!
@richardlloydusa8 жыл бұрын
I am contemplating that service on the Santa Fe in the future. The fuel filter is inside the fuel tank but it is actually not that difficult to access as Hyundai engineered a service hatch for the job under the driver's rear seat. I will look into it as it does need to be done on my Santa Fe. Stay Tuned. Thanks.

Excellent video job well done,what was going on no split pin and the nut loose Unbelievable, tip a pry bar helps getting that ball joint back in where the pinch bolt goes through, some pry bars are double ended with a pointed end. Ps, like your torque wrench the right and left handed lever, thanks for mentioning my name im now famouse. Pps did you get back ok after you test run, lol. many thanks for the videos love em.

You are welcome. Funny you should mention it, I did purchase a pry bar kit as well as one with a pointed end exactly as you described after making this video to help in future service. The torque wrench is essential. I use to torque every nut and bolt I have a value for. The electric impact wrench was a godsend as well as the breaker bar which is a 3/8 inch adapted to 1/2 inch. I will be buying a 1/2 inch breaker bar soon so I don't over stress the 3/8 inch bar on these bigger jobs. I will be taking the control arms off again to replace the bushings. I will use them then (I will video that as well). It's running really nice after the swap. I have a bunch of new suspension parts I am itching to install but my KIA Sorento is currently in the body shop after a motorist ran over a flattened trunk lid on the expressway and then hurled it through the grill piercing my condenser, radiator and damaging the bumper, $1500 all told. It's my wife's vehicle, though I could have done the work myself, I wanted the AC system properly charged and the work to be done ASAP. Making these videos actually adds 50%+ to the amount of time it takes to complete the job. So the Santa Fe is our only working vehicle at the moment so I have to hold off on any repairs till next week.

Richard Lloyd Another trick two pry bars back to back to spread brake pads. Ive got the 3 sizes of breaker bars, ive seen Snap on bars 3ft long do the impossible without breaking, mind you they cost a fortune. Shame about the Kia, i had an incident following a lorry on the motorway with one of those steel plate tail lifts, it fell off and started to cart wheel towards me, didn`t know what way to turn, then it bounced and went on the verge, lady luck was with me.
@richardlloydusa8 жыл бұрын
Cool, thanks for the tip. I usually use a C clamp to compress the pistons on the calipers. Wow, the lift plate would have destroyed your car. I had a similar incident with a trailer wheel which came off the trailer axle (quite a common occurrence on boat trailers from poorly sealed bearings) and it was impossible to figure out which way it was going to bounce and where it was going to land next unfortunately I hit that one which bent my front bumper on my old Toyota truck. I tied a chain around a telephone pole and the bumper and put the truck in reverse to pull it straight. Worked. Thanks again.

Richard Lloyd That should be the link on how to use the pry bars. clever.

have to replace the axle, but found that pinch bolt rounded out, do you know where i could buy it?
@richardlloydusa7 жыл бұрын
My first suggestion is to buy it from a Hyundai dealer.(easiest) Second suggestion go to your local junk yard and pull one off a junked Santa Fe there but understand that you will need a 1/2 inch breaker bar to break it loose. Penetrating oil, a torch and a two pound hammer like I did on the video may be a good idea as well. Call Hyundai first and see how much they want for it before you go through the trouble. Thanks.
