The most common question I get here is "how tall are you and how do they bars sit?". Should I do a short video on the bar height/seat/riding position with the stock seat and the Saddlemen Step-Up?
@michaelkozak7295

Also no need to pull harness under tank. You are going to cut/splice wires any way. Just cut measure in how much wire needed. Then use a solder connecter and heat gun. Better connection then hand gun solder. I've done it his way. To each his own and found it easier then messing with thr harness under the tank.

Thanks Michael. That's true; the Lucky Dave's bar is designed as a one piece. In my experience, and for my riding style, I prefer a stable, solid bar. I'm always skeptical of multiple failure points on critical control elements of a motorcycle.

I am trying to get exact bar job done on my 19 M8 Lowrider, nervous about the job if I do it myself and the labor costs are crazy. Was quoted $411.00 for just a Harley cable kit, did the extensions cost far less? I've got no experience currently with a sawdering wire.
@mistergoats
@mistergoats 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff, yes, I got the Guerrilla Cables kit and it came in for the light extensions and clamshell wiring at around $120 USD; significantly less than the Harley kit for effectively identical wiring. Here in Canada a bar job is quoted at 6-7 hours at $140/hour. After doing it twice now, I understand why. This job is a pain in the ass. It's not hard, it's just tedious. As long as you take your time and make sure you mark each wire, you'll be okay. When I did my first M8 softail, I had almost no experience with soldering, and there's lots of opinions and techniques on how to do it. I give myself enough bare wire to make a mechanical twist that holds pretty tightly and then place a small bead of tiny diameter (0.6mm) solder onto the connection, then heat shrink the wires, which you have to prepare for BEFORE soldering the two wires together (or you can tape them after, but this is less "watertight"). I'm by no means a pro and I did it. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Geoff did the stock grips just pull out without any issue like adhesive? I would want to use the same ones for now.
@mistergoats
@mistergoats 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dino, the throttle side grip comes off without any effort... it's just held on by the clamshell housing. The left side is glued on to the stock bar. I've seen some people remove it and reuse it, but I think it's a combination of solvents/compressed air to get it off. That's why you see old Harley bars on craigslist with one grip on them all the time. So, if oyu can figure out how to get that grip off without damaging it, go nuts, but you'll likely have to glue it on to the new bar so it doesn't spin around.

Hi Steve, apologoes for the late response. I had that Klockwerks screen on there about a month or so, and while it worked really well for me, I decided to change it up and went with a Memphis Shades Road Warrior with a n 11" screen. It ended up being the perfect set-up for me. I'm a bit taller, so it's more like a wind blocker for my chest; I'm too tall int he torso to use anything for a face-covering windsheild, and I like my head in the wind anyway. I've since sold the Sport Glide and moved on to a Road Glide, where I intend to put a Klockwerks screen on this bike, too. Hope that helps!

Hey there, I'm 6'0" (183 cms). I have a pretty long torso and long arms. This bar hits perfect for me. I put the bar on before I changed the seat. With the stock seat, it was a tiny bit tall (the stock seat is plush/cusion-y, so your ass sinks down in the seat a little). I replaced the stock seat with a Saddlemen Step-Up and now it's perfect. The harder seat also pushes me about 2" more forward. Hope that helps!

Hey Patrick, sorry, I don't have the part numbers (I don't have the bike anymore, either so I can't have a look), but when I went to Harley and asked, they gave me the clutch upper and brake cable from a Street Bob, which are about 12" over stock. Keep in mind this means they are about 12" from the termination point of the abs connection under the triple tree, not 12" total over the cable, so the clutch ended up being really long. One of the parts folks at your local dealer can get the numbers for you. Hope that helps.

@mistergoats
@mistergoats 11 ай бұрын
Hey there, I bought the Guerilla Cables "softail" cable kit. I think they give you 12" of wires, and you have to cut them to your specifications. It's lots of cable to work with. If you meant the clutch cable, I asked Harley for the Street Bob length one as they have the higher bars.

Would clutch and brake line extensions be needed for the 11” Lucky Dave bars?
@mistergoats
@mistergoats 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure. On the Sport Glide, the stock clutch and brake lines are VERY short. The signals and the throttle by wire cables will be fine (internal wiring), but you might be a little short on the clutch and brake. I remember reading that you can raise the bars about 6" without having to change the brake/clutch.

My bike sat in the shop for 7wks waiting to get 12in mini apes installed but due partly to the current pandemic and whatever else is going on at harley they never got the parts. So I just pulled the bike out and canceled. Never was happy about the $1000 qoute I got but it was better than the others who were over $1400. Didn't think to have them meet me half way and just do the clutch and brake line 🤔.
@mistergoats
@mistergoats 4 жыл бұрын
Ya, that was sort of a side thought - I only asked them to do the brake line as I didn't want to mess with the possibility of the ABS locking up on me. They installed the clutch line, too (that's BY FAR the easier one of the two as it only takes a couple of a seconds). That's a bummer about the time it took. Sorry to hear that.

Question: Why did you choose the "pull back" bars instead of the MX bars?...Do you have short arms?...isn't the pull-back mostly for the wheelie crowd?...I really want to know Why...Thanks
@mistergoats
@mistergoats 4 жыл бұрын
It's all personal preference. I have long-ass ape arms! The San Diego bar is the straight equivalent to this Lucky 13 bar. After talking to the rep at Lucky Dave's, he said the pullback is WAY more comfortable on long-range rides. I also got the bar before I got my Saddlemen seat. Had I known the seat would push me forward a couple of inches, I would have gone with the San Diego instead. Also, I wanted the extra 1" taller of the 13" bar (over the 12" San Diego) as I have a long torso, too. As it sits right now, fully together, it's pretty comfy. There's a little slack in my elbows, which is nice. I am certainly not a wheelie guy, so there was zero thought put into the purchase about that. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more details.

Thank you! Hey, mine are very slightly misaligned, too. They toe-in a bit. I took the time to loosen the nut and aim them as best I could, but ya, to my eye they are still crooked and drive me nuts. I considered filing off the little tab on the top of the light pod mount that locates to a hole in the clamshell and that would make it very easy to align the light pod properly. The problem is that it would end up spinning from vibration. I might have to fab a new mount for the light pods. Hope this helps!

When you pull the rubber housing off how do you know what wire goes were? I’m attempting my first FXr division bar install this weekend
@mistergoats
@mistergoats 4 жыл бұрын
Good question, Paul. They are relatively easy to trace as it's split in half, physically, by the way the plastic is moulded. There's an upper section (right hand side wires) and a lower section (left hand side wires). The headlight and ABS wires have their own ports (you don't need to remove these). The blinkers are grey connectors, and the hand electronics are black. The housing colours match the ports where they insert under the rubber housing.

I’m going to switch the bulbs out first before I pull Humpty Dumpty apart again. I know bulbs are integrated and I might have joggled on around in the process somehow but outside of the bulbs any suggestions? I took detailed pictures of the wiring lay out and it’s all plug in play connections. Just doesn’t get much simpler. I just can’t imagine what I did. Definitely no pinched wires or anything. If I were to put 10 or 12 inch pullback T bars on my sport glide what all would I need to extend?
@mistergoats
@mistergoats 4 жыл бұрын
If your Sport Glide has ABS (petty sure they all come standard with it, but maybe some don't) you'll need the brake line extended by a Harley tech as if you do it yourself you can get air lock in the ABS module. You'll also need an extended clutch upper cable. You'll need an internal bar wiring kit (I use Guerilla Cables) for the clamshells and the throttle by wire. You'll also need turn signal wiring, too if you go any taller than 10" and want to keep the blinkers in the stock location. You can reuse the riser bolt hardware, but I would suggest against it (I replaced mine with longer bolts from LA Choppers). And you'll want to get stiffer riser bushings like the Gooden Tites I used in the video.
