How long can a sand mound septic last? A house we are interested in had one put in 7 years ago, and the inspector said if it was ever to fail we can only have holding tanks. That frightened me some

ashley21040 the life of a sand mound depends on how well it was taken care of by the home owners. normally the sand will clogged up with sludge. if that happens usually the sand mound can be rebuilt. I would find it hard to believe that holding tanks would be your only option.

Our mound has black liquid pooling above ground , would we be able to just add crushed rock and then black dirt to top off our mound ?

Tracey Fraser if water I coming up that means there is a problem and adding more stone won't help. Either the sand is plugged up with silt and sludge or the gravel around the 4" pipe is clogged up. The mound may have to be rebuilt.

dirt digger Ohio ! Thank you for the quick reply. Some one told me to have a professional septic company empty my tanks again and do a blow back and maybe that would unplug any blockages?

That will probably only work if the holes in the pressurized pipe are clogged. It doesn't sound like that is the problem if you are having water surface on the top of the mound. I will bet it's the gravel or the sand causing your problem and it needs replaced.

Tracey Fraser it can be expensive but I'm just going on what you commented. I would recommend you get an opinion from a couple different local companies before you start spending money on it. It could be a different problem but I couldn't tell you for sure unless I was to see it.

Is there only one run of 4 inch PVC in this mound system?

Yes. It has a 2 inch pipe inside the 4 inch with holes drilled in it every 24 inches apart.

We use concrete sand.

It was a 3 bedroom house 1500gal septic tank 1000gal lift station

Is there any way at all I can contact you, me and my wife are building a house in Brown County, Ohio, we have struggled with a septic installer, I just applied for my license so I can install it, I should have it any day, my only concern is getting the mail and be in before the weather turns bad I am I am needing a little bit of assistance or pointed in the right direction, any help at all would be greatly appreciated

Jamie Brierly you would have look our company up and to call us. But in Ohio all the counties are suppose to be following the state of Ohio codes. But that is just the minimum, the counties can go above and beyond those codes. We install septics in 3 county's and all of them are a little different from each other. I will be more than happy to help you out with any questions but I don't want to give out my number on here.
