Mk4 oem cams are built with runner compensation. Mk4 unlike mk3 ntake carry equal length runners. Also the tt268 recomend using heavy duty valve springs.

I talked with TT directly and this is what they’re recommended I run in the car and I didn’t need to run heavy duty valve springs. This is the biggest you can run before needing them they said. I also don’t plan on redlining the car so we should be fine lol

I once put a 3/4 race cam in a Chevy 327. I made one revolution in 10 seconds ! lol 😂 Great job, easy install ! Thanks again, RickGTI….. 🌴

If you have VCDS I would recommend setting the idle speed to better suit the new cams. I have my stock/OEM+ MK4 12V set to 800 RPM and it seems to idle smoother than it did at 650. The electrical system works better at this idle speed too because the alternator is spinning slightly faster.

When you put the cams in did you put the new cams back at top dead center? I believe I remember you setting the old cams to top dead center before remove did you set the new ones to top dead center?

I have always thought one cylinder isn’t quite right on Miley. I remember one day to the next that the idle was drastically different with nothing done to cause it since the cams and tune were down before.

I mean It wasn’t really just one day it started. Over the course of me driving the car for the years I’ve had it since the cam and tune were installed slowly but surely it got more and more choppy. Which seems to be the case with a lot of people who have 262s in their mk3 that ive talked to. I don’t think anything is wrong with the engine. Just nice and broke in.

What's the purpose of installing the cams out of TDC? Could you leave the crank at TDC and install the cams with the locking plate in place or would they not torque down correctly?

I read that there was a 12V VR6 in the MK4 in the USA, visually the engine reminds me of the VR5 10v, the intake is very similar. Does the US VR6 drive similarly to the VR5, good torque even in the lower speed range or does it drive like a MK3 VR6? I've never seen the engine in Germany

Yes so in America we got the mk3 12v vr6 and also in the early mk4s we also got a 12v vr6 which in Europe you guys never got. The mk4 12v vr6 is very similar to the 10v vr5 correct 👍🏼 Same as the 24v vr6 being very similar to the 20v vr5. I’ve never driven a 10v vr5 but I’d assume the mk4 12v vr6 is probably closer in feeling to that then the mk3 12v vr6. Just because of the difference in the intake manifold but I’d have to drive all 3 back to back to really verify.

Didn’t have a ton of assembly lube so I put a few dabs on the lifters and then I covered the cam lobes and cam caps in oil. Everything spun smooth and didn’t have any issues on start up 👍🏼

I live in Orlando, trying to find a decent mechanic to do this job. Christian, I will pay you to do this for me. I have an MK4 Jetta VR6 and I have the same cams, just don't have a mechanic to do the job.

This is pretty close to a DIY. Believe in yourself you can get it done. May seem scary to do. But promise you it’s not !

Idk my bro, I can change oil, coolant, even changed my Crankshaft Position sensor, but ive heard some scary scenarios if timing isnt correct when done. I've got too much money invested in this car to destroy it now. Also these cars are very hard to find now in decent shape especially!!
