Last part of making the Kubota great again, now we are installing new bushings and bolts with my homemade tool and getting it ready for work.
Part 1 welding the stick:
• Making the kubota grea...
Part 2 removing bolts and bushings:
• Changing out all pins ...

to get the old bushing out, weld a bead around the in side with 7018 stick rod, a little tap an they fall out, put the new bushings in the freezer over night an the slide nicely in with a fine thread rod.. by the way they are not blots, they are pins..
@MiniMachines1
@MiniMachines1 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I've done that before, but here this was quicker. But it's A nice trick welding. Yes pins are more correct, thanks didn't think of it 😊

a bit late now but i would have cut one of the old bushings down and used as a spacer at the end of the dipper rather than weld in the bore ,other wise a good job all round.

I tried that the last time but it got really hard to get greas in since it comes out in the middle of the bolt. And also it's wider in the middle ☺️

Looks great and many more years of work. Heinrich did a great job of painting it. Sure costs alot less to refurbish it then a new one. There is a product made by Loctite, I believe it is a bearing retainer but I have seen it used to fill in the gap between a bearing in case your bushing wants to move on you again! Have a great spring and hopefully you have some interesting work to share with us.

Yes luckily I got Per Erik that works full time with me, so we are two doing maintenance, and he plows snow so I get time to do maintenance instead 😊 Yes I think it's important to keep the machines looking nice, specially when I rent them out, if it looks good the people renting is also taking better care of it.

For high torque operations or a tool that will be used several times I use grade eight steel all thread rod with grade eight nuts. Not only is the steel stronger but the thread cut is around eighty percent or better while the galvanized rod is more expensive, made of grade five steel and because it is going to be hot dipped galvanized (or even the plated variety) its thread tolerance is in the sixty percent range to allow the coating. The hot dipping process also weakens the already weak steel as well. Great for outside work in contact with the weather but not so good for stressful applications such as your puller. These ratings are SAE but the same applies for metric fasteners.
@odin-eliottodinson7330
@odin-eliottodinson7330 2 жыл бұрын
@Douglas Thompson Technically I would agree with you. Though I think his choice of all-thread might have been based purely what was readily avaliable. Don't forget that these videos are made in The Worlds Northernmost Town, and sometimes you just use whatever you have in stock to avoid breaking your wallet. :-) As a sidenote, if anyone wonders about the Metric/SAE ratings: Metric 4.6 is approx "Grade 2" for bolts, and "Grade A Nuts" for nuts. Metric 8.8 is approx "Grade 5" for bolts, and "Grade B Nuts" for nuts. Metric 10.9 is approx "Grade 8" for bolts, and of course "Grade G Nuts" for nuts. (not "Grade C Nuts", those are for "ASTM A325"...) Metric 12.9 are not graded in SAE, but I would suggest "Grade 99" and "Grade Z Nuts".

Thanks for sharing this. It's been great to watch your business grow with the channel and I admire that you are investing down time into improving the condition of your equipment. This old unit looks new again and no one will know otherwise. I'm constantly reminded on how people that weren't your competition forced you to quit your job and build your side business into a full time business. I'm sure they are regretting it as you become real competition. Keep grinding and keep thinking big!

Hi and congrats on your new machine, the kubota won't let you down. Here the kubota is mostly rented out to private. We use it mainly where we can't get in with the bigger machines, we operate in a small town that is really narrow and little room between houses. Is also great for smaller jobs where we can go in with a much smaller disturbance of the yard. We also use it for going inside houses to digging out basements with it that's somthing it's perfect for. You will see a lot of videos on my channel of work being done with the little kubota 😊

Great video series. You have made me want to buy the small Kubota even more. I live in Sweden, and want to buy a Kubota 10-3, but i would like to transport it in a regular van, and not a trailer, since it would be way cheaper to transport - especially when going on bridges a ferry's, and could be done without having to get a trailer license for heavy trailers. Do you think it would be possible to transport it in a let's say regular VW transport T4?
