I didn’t understand how you measured the nevel post, and how you did the cut exactly. Btw it’s a good video. Thank you very much🙏
@PlatoonGarage6 ай бұрын
It's kind of hard to explain in words only. The measurement is to get the proper rail height. So you need to make the measurements based off of where you want your handrail. If you are not going to notch the bottom, you can fit it right up to where the stairs are going to be and make your measurements that way. If you notch like I did. You have to take into account the fact that you're moving the Newell post closer and it changes the calculation

If you put a rail on the wall side and left that open would that be to code?
@PlatoonGarage11 ай бұрын
I'm not a professional inspector, but I'd say that is highly unlikely
@avaalbertini95842 жыл бұрын
Sorry for being dense, but explain why notching it and having the wood closer caused you to come up 3 inches short on the cut? notching it didn't cut any length off so math that you described to come up with the height should still have worked as it was described? Any additional information would be appreciated. It looks great.
@PlatoonGarage2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to explain, the best way I can think is if both rail attachment points move when notching the Newell, then the distance the railing is from the knee wall wouldn't change. But since the railing is attached at the wall, but moving the Newell closer to the wall actually changes distance which made the railing too short for the local code. That's super confusing and probably not helpful 😂. Anyway, I tried 👍

The caps that you slide to cover the plugs bottom and top, how did the angle work out perfect? Every staircase has different angle. Did you have to cut those to your angle?

@@PlatoonGarage You can't just make your handrail to be 45 degree. You handrail must be same angle as your stair stringer and every staircase has it's unique angle. And I doubt that is 45 degree, probably 37.5.

I cut the wall back as far as the floor support extended, there were 4 2x4 supports under the beam, so I left those in place to handle the vertical load.
