Installing OEM Alcantara Suede Steering Wheel In My 2023 Honda FL5 Type R!!

Nice tutorial. The leather steering wheel on my Type R was jacked up by the transport guy. The dealer cut me a check for $450 as a compensation and I ordered this Alcantara wheel for $280 and installed it myself. Your video was extremely helpful. Thanks!!! Huge upgrade compared to the cheap and thin leather of the original steering wheel.

We get the Alcantara wheel as standard in Japan. I think except for US market, other regions get Alcantara as standard. But after a few months I can't wait to switch it out for leather lol, it's too slippery and gets dirty easily. The alcantara works well with gloves, but I don't like to keep wearing gloves. Since I can't find the OEM leather, I am gonna get the Mugen steering wheel, with a mix of carbon, leather and alcantara (minimal).

You sold me on the wheel...not only will it feel amazing, but it truly does look way better Hey, some advice from years of audio installs...you can actually buy a little "pry kit" made of plastic pry tools for $10. its basically soft plastic versions of a flathead, hammer, pliers, tweezers, etc new cars are probably a lot more solid, but I broke sooooo many brackets on 90s hondas before I got one of those kits!

Followed this video to install this in my 2023 Sport Hatchback and everything went flawlessly. Only thing I would have added was to mark a line from the steering wheel's back plastic piece to the trim on the vehicle to be 100% sure the steering wheel goes back on in the exact same position. Also to obviously disconnect the battery for the uninformed people watching this.

Is there a specific way to align the steering wheel? I see there is a "pin" on the bottom left of the steering wheel bolt. Is that the alignment pin and it only installs on way, straight? Thanks

The pin isn’t for alignment, I honestly just eyeballed it. You’ll want to make sure you didn’t move anything when you removed the steering wheel and that you removed it while it was as straight as could be. Just align the teeth on the back and make sure it’s straight. Most people recommend an alignment after anyways but I waited till I got my springs and spacers done.

Did you not have to transfer the 3 metal pin/brackets on the back of the old wheel to the new one? Thats what holds the airbag in place I believe.

No the new wheel actually already had some on. I believe if it weren’t a Honda wheel you’d have to swap them over.
