Installing Oil Catch Can to Reduce Engine Deposits / Keep Pistons Clean

Here's me installing oil catch can to reduce engine deposits, keep pistons clean, as well as intake valves, on this GDI engine found in 2013 - 2017 Honda Accords. GDI engine problems like clogged intake valves are partly caused by the absence of fuel washing over the back of the inake valves as well as oil vapors coming from the PCV system. Installing an oil catch can is one of the ways of keeping the combustion chamber clean on these engines. They help prevent carbon build up in engines.

May not be official from the manufacturers, but I'm sure it's down to cost cutting measures and some other factors. If in doubt of its effect, I did an update at 1000miles in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5fLaGWjibCop80 I even saw a KZbin video where the guy collected an oil/water mix in his that was about 200mls! Space will be the only reason for me not to add this on a GDI engine.

My accord 2014 it’s port fuel injector and 5 speed transmission , Exported to the Middle East 2013 and 2014

You are absolutely correct! I just researched specs, while the US market has GDI, this link shows that the 2021 Oddysey for the Australian market has multiport fuel injection! www.carexpert.com.au/honda/odyssey/2021-vilx7-cdace912

I wonder if a water cooled oil catch can exists to ensure the oil condenses out of the crankcase gases before getting to the plenum. The water could be routed from the return side of the radiator so it's always cooler than the contents of the catch can. 🤓

😀 That would be nice. It's just that car makers haven't prioritised reducing the oil vapors from the pcv system. After all, the throttle body has cooling lines going to it. Some high end aftermarket ones for performance cars may well have water cooled catch cans.

It's a long known modification that helps GDI engines especially. If I this car had dual injection (GDI + multiport), I probably wouldn't have installed it.

Hi, I have issue with my 2013 Accord. It displays “Check Charging System” battery runs down whenever it come up. I had changed the battery terminal sensor which seemed to work for about 3 weeks after which the problem came up. What do you advise? I don’t have too much trust in the mechanics around my current location. Your suggestion will be helpful

There's an issue in the charging system. The car needs to be scanned and diagnostics run. A weak battery/alternator, the BMS sensor etc will cause that alert.

@@DIYAutoworksNG the issue isn’t battery or alternator. I have them all replaced and problem persists. It temporarily stopped after I got a new terminal sensor but it seems the sensor isn’t reliable.

P16E2:00 is the code that comes up whenever the car is scanned.

I see. Poor electrical contact or shorts in the wiring/connections if the alternator, faulty alternator are possible issues. Lastly, could be a a faulty PCM. Actual cause can be isolated via troubleshooting.
