Installing Rear Passenger Pegs on the Honda Monkey 125!

The new Honda Monkey 125's do not come equipped with passenger pegs like their Grom brethren unfortunately. This is most likely because the Monkey has super soft rear shocks, and kind of a short stubby seat not befitting of many passengers. But what if your passengers are super small, like my 7-year old son? In my current season of life (I like that term!), my kids LOVE riding, and if not riding their own bikes, they love riding with me on mine. The Monkey is a pretty small bike for a passenger, but if you're doing what I'm doing with it - which is cruising our neighborhood and the racetrack paddock - then a passenger seems much more plausible. So why not outfit the Monkey with some pegs so they can enjoy the journey with me?
I found these pegs by searching the Beezdeals website looking for cool things I couldn't get stateside for my Honda Monkey. They were pretty affordable, and I liked their lightweight design as well as their subtle black anodized finish. Overall I'm fairly pleased with them and they work perfect for my 7-year olds little size 1 shoes! Oh, just one thing though, make sure you upgrade the Monkey's OEM pool noodle rear shocks BEFORE you consider carrying a passenger! Unless you want to bottom out immediately that is...

Just got the same ones. Super simple and looks good. I have a man in the box rack I am making a clip on seat pad for. Upgraded rear shocks and should be golden.

@@John5XR since you are on hopefully you get a notification for this comment too- for the stock front shocks is it possible for a spacer to be put inside for a little preload? I haven’t had them apart yet. I have thicker fluid to put in. The spring rate is ok-ish. Ok enough I’m not wanting to spend the premium an upgrade entails. I’m thinking pvc maybe an inch spacer. You’ve had them apart. I know it’ll probably limit my travel by about that much too. Thanks

I’d say if you’re going through the effort of taking the apart, just go with the springs. Ohlins offers two spring rates with the kit, one for lighter riders and one for heavier riders. Go with the lighter option and I think it’ll be perfect. As for your question, there are spacers in the Ohlins kit that provide preload, so I imagine you can do the same with the stock springs. Perhaps you can purchase the spacers separately from Ohlins directly as spare parts

I wouldn’t suggest it unless you have stronger sprung rear shocks, which I do. Also, I only carry my kids around, so it’s only adding around 70lbs from my 7-year old
