Hey guy love what your doing and just wanted to add my 2 cents. My family and I have a property as camp and there was nothing there when we started working on it so in the early late fall that first year I bought a super cheap 23 foot tow camper. It was run down as heck but it did have a working propane furnace. It gave my myself, my wife and our, at the time, very young son a place to get in out of the cold while working on projects over the winter. We kept it for like 3 years until our main camp structure was done. You guys might want to try the same or not just throwing it out there.

Hi Al! Love the channel. Here are some tips from 15+ years of dealing with beavers. 1. Get a different rake. Around here it is called a potato rake. Three prongs and a stouter handle. A garden rake grabs too much stuff and is too hard to use. 2. Beavers get 'trap wise' pretty quick. Try not to touch the trap with your bare hands. New traps should be boiled to remove machine oil and human smell. 3. Traps should be dipped in wax. This hides the metallic smell and helps them work smoother. It also prevents rust. 4. Each breeding pair of beavers has its own pond. So, as the population increases young beavers move downstream to establish their own dams and ponds. This means that you have to put out many more traps to keep the population down. Good luck!

For temporary good heat: Take metal 55-gal metal drum with both ends closed. Cut hole in end that does not have the bung hole that a stove pipe will fit into. Cut access door on side and hinge to open and close. The bung hole open on the bottom will allow air to come up from the bottom. Drill holes and rum rebar through them to form a grate for the wood and fire. Built fire and enjoy good heat. It could be set inside your fire pit and it will allow you to put kettle or coffee pot on top and even warm soup for a nice lunch. Scree can be placed over the stove pipe to act as a spark arrestor. Enjoy!

Hey Al, with the beaver dam not fully repaired, it would be very easy to install a beaver deceiver... a pvc pipe that allows water to flow at the level you want to keep it. There's no need to kill them all. You can also install an elbow (I think it's called a monk pipe) that allows you to adjust the water level if needed.

I think that you need to have a queen excluder in the hives to keep the queen curtailed to a certain part. I am not familiar with the horizontal hives, we had 2 of the upright hives, the bottom one and one super were where the queen was, a queen excluder was placed over that then other supers were added. We did not have a problem in the winter, usually wrapped the hives with tar paper. The bees kept it warm in winter and cool in summer, they also kept the hives clean. Good luck with them. Be interesting to see how you are going about with your composting toilet.

If time isn't a major factor, your going to need equipment to harvest logs, build ponds, road work, haul logs and yards of rock, compost. Jamaica cabins, get a mill sponsor or contract barter wood. They send you your build kit. You send back the wood in barter on the back haul. You will make up the time in the build to equal the logging time. They have a lumber source outside major mills that can be shut down. Harvest and let the land pull the materials cost load. You could do your cut sheets during the winter and order everything else from Jamaica Cabins. I hope you have a great sugar bush of maple trees.

For my wife and me, we always like Aglio Olio as a quick pasta meal that's even better the next day, after the flavors have had time to really meld and saturate the pasta in the fridge. We generally go for three cans of anchovies and two to three cloves of garlic to one package of linguine. All you do is mince the garlic, sauté it and the anchovies in a pan until everything becomes an emulsified liquid while boiling the pasta, then scoop in one large spoon of pasta water into this sauce. Drain the pasta, and stir the sauce into it. Serve with a copious mound of pecorino romano or other dry parmesan-type cheese. Mangia bene!

I just noticed what tops you used for the sauce. How do you process the jars with them? I used 2 for some chili sauce I made.

I always wondered how the rafters were nailed to the ridge beam if they all were 24” OC. I learned something new. Also, great steam dragon...funny.

Al why don’t you consider a shipping container for storage they’re air and rain tight for tools it could be moved at a later date?

We made a soup with the following ratio of ingredients: 60% squash, 30% carrots, 10% beets. Add 1 shallot and 2 gloves of garlic. The spices are rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil, and salt. Blend it all into a soup. Pour into pan with canola oil. Simmer over low heat to reduce. The color is indistinguishable from spaghettis sauce and quite close in taste. We ladled that over California wild rice and roast chicken. Excellent.

Wow the build is going well. Liked the little bit of brush busting too. Your meal looked good except that there was no bread.

How do you plan to get in and out if you're covering the front with paneling? Do you ever put the cold ashes from your fires into your compost? I love making soup but leftover soup is best.

I like when Gina uses the multicooker with the green dragon steam relief. Down Under here in Australia we have a bank named ST GEORGE BANK and its logo is a Green Dragon that looks exactly like yours. Happy Cooking and a happy Thanksgiving.

Sprouts can give you live greens in the winter. We like beans and rice. We add canned sardines, leeks, red onions, spices to the beans, cilantro. Cook in a one pot.

Chili and beef stew always taste better the next day, imo. The build is coming along nicely, Al and Gina. The fire looked so warm and inviting and Gina's spaghetti supper looked oh so good:) Have a great day.

Good mornin, 42 degrees and cloudy. Still no snow. Just to get some cheer in this dreary home we are decorating for Xmas today. Your building is looking great. Pot roast is always better the next day, and the next day and the next. Well its 4:04pm now and we are getting heavy snow. Have a great day.
