Tim, I did the swap/upgrade with exactly the same parts as you did. The Hafny mirrors work surprisingly well, even for being small. The thumb throttle works perfect and I prefer it over the stock twist throttle. Having ridden motorcycles all my life I wouldn't have thought so, but for me the thumb throttle is much better. But....the GOEMX grips, not so much. The GOEMX are definitely very nice looking but the faux leather covers are not bonded to the rubber base and after being used and exposed to the heat, the covers distort, stretch and slip becoming loose on the base. I found it very annoying having to always twist and reposition the faux leather covers. Anyway I replaced them with a set of Rock Bros which so far are working out well.

I went with the GOEXM Bike Handlebar Grips, and while they seemed fine at first, I would say that the microfiber leather is pretty flimsy. I ride mostly roads and while the leather hasn't fallen apart yet, it is starting to slide and stretch. And if you are mostly riding off-road or in challenging tracks, I am sure that they would fall apart pretty fast.

Do you still like that small of a mirror? Should the bike fall over, isn't that the "end" of the mirror? This Video is very good & I too am going to switch to thumb vs twist
@TinkeringTurtle4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Hafny mirror is working out well. I have never liked the idea of having large mirrors on a bike. I just want something that allows me to not have to turn my head to see behind me. Does this mirror give you a full view? I would say no, but I can see the critical things behind me that I am looking for. For example, I want to see my wife, cars coming, other bikes, etc. And it doesn’t overpower the look of the bike. If the bike fell over to the left on a hard surface, yes the mirror would possibly break. That is probably true for a number of handle bar accessories. I am not too concerned about it. I like the thumb throttle over the stock “twist” one. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Enjoy the ride!

Tim, I appreciate your informative how-to videos. Well done! Good news here, my Himiway bike arrives tomorrow. I cant wait to apply some of your suggested modifications. I'm curious, did you find the twist throttle a problem? Did you ever accidentaly twist it while maneuvering the bike and the bike lurch out of control?
@TinkeringTurtle3 жыл бұрын
I did accidentally hit the throttle once (no damages). But that isn’t what prompted me to do the change. To me it wasn’t comfortable holding the throttle at a given speed. Keep in mind that I grew up riding ATV’s, thumb throttles were the norm on them. So for me it is just more comfortable to use my thumb to feather the throttle. And I really like have a full grip on that side as well. The grips I chose will not rotate while riding, this is an issue I had with the stock grips. In the end it really comes down to personal choice or preference.

@TinkeringTurtle4 жыл бұрын
I never really cared for the “half” twist throttle. I prefer the thumb throttle because I used to have an atv a long time ago. And it had a thumb style throttle. Also some people say the thumb throttles are safer as you tend not to activate them on accident as much. In addition to that the grips I bought to replace the stock ones, “lock” on to the handle bar and they don’t spin on the bar. The stock grips don’t lock or clamp on and they tend to spin on the bar albeit slowly, but it drives me nuts.

Your Welcome! Just for clarity I have three thumb throttle links in the description of the video. The first one is the one I used for the video. As far as pulling it apart, yes it is difficult. And you need to pull fairly hard. Get a good grip and slowly pull. It will likely making a small popping sound and come apart. I guess that’s the drawback of it being a water tight connection. Problem was when I got it and unplugged my twist throttle low and behold the part on the bike side is a female connection, the bafang is also a female connection. SECOND: I love the turtle but for hard heads like me I wish he would have put more emphasis on how fragile the connection pins are. I was not too careful and flattened the pins when trying to reinstall my twist throttle. It is near impossible to straighten the pins after they are bent. So now I'm waiting for a new thumb throttle and have no throttle on my bike.

Sorry you had trouble. For future reference, I always include the component links in the description. In this case I included three links to thumb throttles that will work on Himiway bikes. Two have sold out and the third is still available. As far as the pins you are correct they are fine and need some care when assembling. This is true for many parts of the bike and honestly fairly obvious the moment you look at them. I hope you get thing worked out soon.

Yes, both the twist and thumb throttle give you full throttle.
