Installing the Curt tow hitch on a Kia Sportage

Here I install the Curt class 3 tow hitch on my 2018 Kia Sportage. The Curt 13281 works for 2017-present Kia Sportages. I was able to do it without special tools and it took less than an hour. The hitch is mostly going to be used for a bike rack but the 2 inch receiver and 3500 lb tow rating makes it a great option for numerous applications. #kiasportage #curt #diy #install
I know it’s not my typical squarebody content but I’ve been super busy lately and this is a good reminder to work on your other vehicles too.

I bought the same hitch. Most of my bolt holes were rusted on the car. I should have taken the time to tap them but didn't. Either the hitch or the car had a hole not aligned properly. I wound up stripping the hole when I went to tork the bolt down. The hitch is just for a couple aluminum bikes so I'm sure it will be fine. I put anti seize on the bolts in case I ever have to take the hitch back off. The ramps was a good idea.

Thanks for lesson! I have a 2023 Sportage as well. Question: When i use a tray with my hitch, I always have to reset my reverse sensor so the automatic brake doesn’t kick in when I back up. It’s frustrating. The car won’t budge until I go into the settings and change it each time. Is there a way to turn off that automatic braking feature so it STAYS off??? Thanks for any input! 🙂

Unfortunately I don’t know of a way to permanently disable that as it’s in the car’s programming and I don’t have that feature on my 2018. It’s annoying to deal with for sure but I don’t have an answer for you on this issue.
