hey ken! I got 496 stroker replaced gasket trying to fire it up but carb backfired multiple times. Figured it was the distributor. When I rotate engine to 1st timing mark (0 degrees), piston is at the top, if I rotate even more it starts to go down. I tried setting engine 40 degrees before that, put distributor in pointing to 2nd bolt that's on the intake manifold but when i rotated the engine by and distributor was way off. I was told by MSD that I need to put engine 12 degrees before put distributor in pointing to 1st cylinder rotate engine by hand push down and distributor will drop in. Any tips on what to do?

Only way I know is to put engine at 0 degrees on your timing mark, point distributor at cylinder 7 then rotate engine til it drops. Once it drops, the dist should be pointed at cylinder 1

@@DadbrosGarage If you put it at 0 degrees and cylinder is starting to go down and you rotate engine doesn't that mean spark will be late for cylinder 1?

Y did you not put TOP DEAD CENTRE maker on before putting cylinder heads on ??? .. Number one Cylinder tdc with a dial gauge if you really wanted to then timing marks 0 dead on . Im just saying LOL 😆 🤷 😂 🤣

@@DadbrosGaragei got cylinder 1 to top dead center. But the distributor wont drop in. The last time I was able to get one it, was not good enough and had a engine code

@@Monuments_to_Good_Intentions Look at your balancer from the front...The 0 degrees should be near the 1:00 position. Then with the dist cap off... the pointer should drop in at 3-4 o clock.
