Installing The Lead Front Apron And Soakers To My Dormer **WORKING ON MY OWN HOUSE** (EPISODE 3)

In this video I install the lead front apron flashing and soakers to my dormer. I also start to tile up the sides of the dormer cheeks in preparation for the next stage of works.
Things are starting to take shape and its nice to see some progress.

Always quality work, thanks for the vids. Little tip you may already be aware of: Get about 12" length of 1/2 or 3/4" id coolant hose and plug each end onto your snips, the jaws will spring open automatically and save strain on your joints.👍

Savage work Stuart. What brand of patanation oil do you use? I'm asking cause the brands I'm using take 2 coats of oil . Just wondering what you use cause you get a beautiful Finnish on your work. Where's my leadwork looks like a slapper that's just put on makeup..

Thank you. I’ve found the best oil to be the Calder brand. It dries really quick. But I don’t know if one coat is enough. I always end up oiling my work at least twice.

Hey Stuart! Great work as usual! Nice to be working on yor own house. I have a question…. why do you guys call them soakers, while I know them as step flashing here in the US?

Thank you. Yes it’s really nice to work on my own roof for a change. The commute to work doesn’t take long 😃. So we call that part soakers. And the flashing that goes in above that. The one that’s chased into the brick courses. Is the step flashing. Thanks for watching.

No sorry I don’t think I do. It’s usually not something I get involved with. But they are very easy to do. They Just go on top of every tile or slate. Thanks for watching.

Nice video, to save yourself time my suggestion would be get aluminium soakers, will save you time and instead of making them you could be getting on with other bits.
