Thanks for the tutorial. This was the only video I found that showed how to remove the air intake on the xjr. I wasn't quite sure how the bottom was mounted on and being a 20+ year old car I'm not trying to man-handle anything and break plastic/rubber. But with your video was successfully able to proceed to remove it. Thank you!

I replaced my stock intake with the Mina Gallery intake a couple of years ago. A few comments. When cutting rubber, use soapy water on the knife or what ever you are using to cut. Also when fitting rubber components onto engine components, do the same. It makes a big difference. If you need spacers, consider using large nuts. Now, this might not sit well with most, but I would not use a cone filter. The X308 uses a cold air box and the filter is quite efficient. When a Cone filter is used in this setting, the filter is sucking in hot air from the engine compartment because it doesn't seal like the factory filter box. Secondly, cone filters are advertised as being high flow filters, which they are. However, they don't filter well and will lead to premature engine failure. I know this first hand. Yes, you will hear more engine, but it's not worth the risk to the engine.
@LowTechGarage3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! We are considering a prescreen to go over the cone filter to add a little more protection
@flyurway3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing about the "cold air". I know with the XK's it's a real problem trying to improve on the OEM box as it's already a cold air setup, taking all the air in through the wheel well. And with even less room in the compartment it's near impossible to actually incorporate a better arrangement that actually works and doesn't suck half the air from the very hot engine compartment.

@ Josh! Great video! Just what I wanted to see. When i first purchased my X308 XJ-R one first thing I noticed was jaw dropping attention ( and that was very unexpected ) and I’m not an British car person ( I had thought a BMW or Benz or Porsche was much more jaw dropping to me ) but the classic classy timeless style and that it is somewhat rare to see a Jag like this seemed to send people running to look in the windows and look at the body. Then I drop the bomb by telling them this is a supercharged V8 jag. The first guy that ran to it when he seen it was just after purchasing it and I was gassing up ( my first time to gas up in fact ) and he was a McDonald’s employee in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and he was taking out the garbage and when he seen the Jag getting gassed up he just dropped all the garbage, spilling garbage everywhere, and he forgot all about his job and just ran up to look in the windows of the car going Awww mouth wide open …is it for sale ???? His girlfriend who also worked at the McDonald’s was next to jaw drop and run outside when I pulled around front after gassing up. I absolutely couldn’t believe this reaction from people! This was in the town of Canmore near BANFF Alberta..And I thought it would end there but it didn’t and I’m always surprised when I get approached. But I’ve started to notice how they are walking up to you. This car is like a ‘license’ to talk to you. People automatically think we are in some kind of same club together and they want to tell me their back story. Their own personal relation to the car. I’m delighted a car this old can have this sort of strong reaction on people. :) Almost 27 years since first purchased. And it was first purchased near Toronto where I am now. A place called Sarnia Ontario. Not far from Toronto. So I brought her back home. Amazing ! But it is a bit weird getting approached. I’m not sure if I really need the added attention but it is okay. Feels a bit weird to be a bit high profile. If I take my Black Lena out on a long drive I get approached at least 1-2 times. Especially it seems to be while at McDonald’s or while gassing up. People still have a love affair with the automobile. This car maybe more than many others symbolizes the bye gone age of the classic automobile. Something left that is timeless and iconic rolling down that’s still left rolling down the road. You can’t get beat or bullied either by other regular drivers in regular cars. Just too much smooth torquey pick up and go! The very next thing someone said to me is that it is extremely easy to add HP to this car which is just by adding a COLD AIR INTAKE they informed me that I could get it up to 400hp just by doing only that. That made me think of watching this video you made tonight. COLD AIR INTAKE! :) I’m sure at 27 years old I’m not at 370 hp any longer but 400 hp or anything 400 and over sounds like fun ( if he was right about that ) Sooo easy to get those cars up over 400 hp he said.. I’m more of a pure stock sort of guy just to keep things as simple and basic as possible. But if I did so just one modification it would be cold air intake. I think the silver air intake pipe looks super cool! Just performed my oil change for the fall on October 11 -12 I had 3,700 miles on the old oil. The shop I found in Toronto did a great job!! They drained the old oil out over their lunch hour so it was able to drain on the hoist for well over an hour. :) They added 5 L of 5w30 full synthetic Castrol I topped it up myself with one more L It took about 80% of that last L (5.8 L of oil total ) plus I think the oil filter must have taken some more when they primed it. Air filter was still good from August 6 The oil now looks really clean. I think they did a super job of draining it. :)

@ Josh It’s been a long day fixing my old plastic factory spec air intake! But now with a very unprofessional black electric tape fix and with that plastic finger completely missing and the tape sealing off the hole ( even with it running what seems like better than ever after my homemade fix at home ) I have the perfect justification for installing a new cold air intake and I want one just like you have on yours. !!! I love the stainless steel air intake tube and the red cone filter. The company that supplies those after market cold air intake systems out of California seems very reputable and on point. LOOKS LIKE A MILLION BUCKS!!! the plastic finger i removed was the one closest to the windshield. It had a/c written on it. I was stranded up in the north part of the city for about 3 hours in middle of the night. The car would barely keep running but I found a way to limp it home by quarter to six in the morning. Then I slept zzzz Once that hole was closed well with tape the car ran like never before. :) The crack in that finger was destroying the full vacuum. :(

@flyurway3 жыл бұрын
I put one on my '04 XKR a couple years ago. The issues with the XK's though is that there's less room to configure and it's already a cold air setup. I just went with the tube, it looks nice and it eliminates that damned "accordion" on the plastic intake. I left the original box as it's still the best way to go for actual cold air. All the shrouding of the aftermarket box doesn't seal out the hot engine heat as well as the factory setup so don't count on any gains being any more than a placebo effect.

Hopefully you'll see this message and write back to me. I fitted mine about 5 months ago and I was wondering if your getting the same noise as I am, ... When you floor it, everything is fine, supercharger whine is lovely and noticable, when your at low revs, it also sounds fine, but when your in the middle range, like half way on the throttle and climbing a hill for example, I can hear what sounds like a air leak type of noise, yet no leak visable, are you getting the same sound? It's hard to explain the sound, just sounds like air escaping type noise.

You are likely hearing the bypass valve on the supercharger opening. It vents back into the inlet.

I've been looking at their full air intake, pulley package for awhile but now after finding your videos I'm thinking about going the same route you did with the powerhouse stuff. I've had a similar intake setup on mine for some time now but I might pick up at least the elbow piece since I already have a pretty decent cone filter with a good heat shield.

Reliability is good. Spend the money and buy one with as much maintenance done already. The biggest issue people face with these cars are deferred maintenance. Hoses that should be replaced. Suspension bushings that need to be replaced ect. The 4.2 engine and zf6 is a great powertrain and the aluminum body jags are lovely. We had an 04 VPD and loved it!

Thank you for the quick note... 10 to 15 hp boost. Nice. My JAG mechanic is back to work on Monday after a long wait. Sometimes good things take time. I’m sure he is pretty good with JAGS. One of the only people that can work on them in town. It’s a very small city. I’m delighted he will finally be back soon after his holidays back in central Continental Europe where he is originally from. Speaking of hp and torque I was looking at specs for 1980s FERRARI TESTAROSSAs and when new they had about the same hp and torque as the late 90s easily 00s JAGUAR XJRs and 0-60 was almost the same or slightly better. Pretty FAST. That was on their 4.9 V12 Kind of impressive for a 4 door British sedan. Almost the same hp. A 1989 FERRARI was slightly better in the area of hp. 370 hp compared with 385 hp I believe it was. About 15 more. Yes, you can definitely HEAR that supercharger after what you did!!!! really important you are putting way more air in with the supercharger pulley but you have not increased the fuel this WILL damage your cylinder heads and overheat your engine you need a wide band O2senser to tell your air /fuel ratio . A nd by the way mina gallery is cosmetic crap look at the dyno runs of the later xjrs to see how bad they are , bottom line is you add more air you HAVE to add more fuel or bad things will happen

Thanks for the input. Our understanding is the engine management will adjust fuel trims to accommodate the additional air coming in.

I dont own one of these cars, so i don't know if it's possible, but if i had one with this kit i would scrap the box and look for a generic intake on ebay with a 90 and a similar diameter and send that filter down into the wheel well.
