I would strongly recommend welding those four link brackets to the cars frame rails. I have a 65 Mustang and back in the 1990's I fitted a rear anti roll bar (sway bar). It had bolted through brackets like you have and they kept coming loose and moving.as the frame rails were being crushed. A bead of weld around the brackets stopped this.

I’m liking how it’s going to sit in the rear, as its not overly wide and in keeping with the rest of the build. Whilst others have said good job I’ll say good choice 👍

If you’re putting por15 on clean metal you’re suppose to etch it first or it’ll peel off in sheets. Por15 sells a degreaser & metal prep (etching). Spray the metal down with both then spray with water & dry it off before painting.

The wheel that you are using for mockup is a negative offset. I assume you are gonna go with positive offset wheels so it has some nice lip in the rear. If you do that without narrowing the axle you're gonna have to make those flares another 6 inches wide.
@thebigbail
@thebigbail Жыл бұрын
True, but you have your negative/positive terminology mixed up. A negative offset rim sticks out further.

I used that same, cheap 4-link on my '70 Mach 1. Since I'm running wider wheel tubs, I swapped the leaf spring brackets (passenger on driver's side and driver on passenger side) and moved them inside the frame rails, then boxed them in for strength. Gained almost an extra 2" of width for wheels/tires.

My opinion on Using spacers adapters on the front rotors; You stated so it can space out the tires to try and match the rear tire width . This is not a good choice. It will load the wheel bearing in the wrong areas, Especially in turns…….Now after saying that, you got a problem with the rear axle being too wide. It looks like on the video that your not using the new wheel well space you now have. The axle flanges are out to far. Which means your axle is still too wide…..I know it’s too late now that you committed with this axle, but I my opinion you should consider a narrower axle. Fixing the width problem with wider sheet metal flares will look too bulgy compare to the front. Best Regards, DW.

The trans yoke and the pinion yoke need to be at the same angle from horizontal or you're likely to experience vibration. For example, if the trans yoke deviates downward 2 deg. from horizontal, the pinion yoke needs to point upward 2 deg. You can Google driveshaft phase angles for more info.

V tune ,make sure your 8.8 rear cover has a gasket on it .I sold parts off rangers and had the 8.8 in it very good rear ends.But sold a lot of them because Ford used silicone on the rear cover and not a gasket. Leaked out over time and burnt them up.

you should also test fit-mock up, make sure the drive shaft lines up with the transmission before you weld anything, when your happy everything lines up. tac weld then check everything again before your final welds
@imaouima

I'm getting ready to do this on a '66 - I don't have the axle yet & have never done it. If I understand correctly, the 8.8 has a 'long' axle and a 'short' axle, in which case the long side should be cut to match the short side (you'll need another 'short' side axle to replace the long one). This should end up being a total of about 1" shorter than the original 8 inch axle (which in my case works for the width of rim I'm planning to use) and will center properly under the car.

You should give the Axel a couple degre down. Normal is that the engine and gearbox goes a couple degre up and meet the backaxel with some degre down. Give you a good grip then you floor it, and lets the joint work right. Good luck
