About OFF GRID with DOUG and Stacy
In 2010 we decided to sell everything and build a log cabin on 11 acres. We have lived in the log cabin for a decade now with no solar power or wind power plus zero public utilities. We live like the pioneers except in the 21st century. We post videos on social media to encourage people to return to the land and make a living with your family. We teach folks:
*Off grid living *Rain water catchment *Cooking with wood
*Food growing *Cooking from scratch *Raised bed gardening
*Food harvesting *fermenting the harvest *food preservation
*Holistic Remedies like Grandma made *How to make money and live this life
*storing food in a root cellar *DIY Build projects
*Animal Husbandry *Raising Chickens, Guinea, Turkeys and Ducks
All of our videos are made to empower you to break free and LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE!

100% off grid here in our tiny 16x24 log cabin and a seperate 12x24 kitchen/living room. Both are heated strictly with woodstoves. And a tip for those who buy the Class A stainless pipe but don't like the shiny look, I roughed mine up with steel wool and painted with hightemp black paint. Went off grid a year ago thanks to this channel. Best move we've ever done. Love to y'all

This fire pit is one of a few covered pits that is on the list kzbin.infoUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM of approved products for Disney Fort Wilderness. The product served its purpose well and provided excellent fires throughout the evening. We were able to open the door and do s'mores, but I had to be careful because the handle was a bit hot on occasions. Additionally, I wish they had replaced some of the standard nuts with lock nuts in some places. We lost the door handle after just a couple of days of usage. Not a deal breaker, just a recommendation. I still give it 5 stars.

When my parents built their first new house (on-grid) in the 1980’s, they added a wood stove. Bricks were added behind it and it stood on a brick foundation. This gave the floor and walls protection and we had plenty of room to set aside wood to dry out when hauled in from outside.

If some of y’all are installing metal roofing behind your wood stove, may I suggest that you install it a few inches off the floor and a few inches from the ceiling. Also, install it so it’s off the original wall sheathing. Now the stove can heat the metal and produce an air flow using convection. The air behind the metal will rise, drawing more air in from the bottom and go out the top. The metal doesn’t have to go all the way to the ceiling, as long as it’s higher than the non insulated stove and pipe.

This method is what I used but I heat my dining room with the use of registers at floor and to 6 foot , as the metal warms cold air is pulled in at the bottom and warm air out the top . This is a through the wall system using the stove in the living room.

Just love our wood stove similar to yours :) A country hearth. best thing we ever purchased . We got blessed, someone purchased ours, ordered everything ever needed for it (fan, blower, brick all interior double black pipe/exterior triple piping) and then decided to move to an apartment. So they never installed it. We got everything brand new still in boxes including our wood burner for 550.00, then the gentlemen handed us back 50 and said lunch was on them. We just got it all installed and I absolutely love it, I waste many hours just sitting watch the fire with my puppy. GOD is good.

I wish they taught how to live off the grid in schools from k-12 & colleges. A manual of how to manage a home, garden, animals, along with water, fire & power, as well as health & first aid. It would be amazing if schools had a design like yours where kids and adults could learn using hands-on experience. Or even a summer and winter camp that teaches these ways of survival and management.

Tips for the Buddy heaters! I have the smaller one and I needed to purchase a hose adapter to use the 20lb tank. Not expensive. They also recommend a filter and I found out you really do need that! I found one at Ace hardware but the Buddy online store has them and you can order it with the heater. I also bought a propane gauge to know when it was getting low. Also recommend you give it a long outdoor burn (a couple hours) before you use it inside. It burns off the exterior residue which is really noxious. I love mine and it works great! Texas Deb 😁❤️

@@dleben8597 yes. I followed the instructions to do a pre-burn outside, and I lit it in my tiny shed that evening but it still had the odor it produces to burn off the manufacturers' coating. That's why I recommend a couple hour initial outdoor burn, because after I did that the smell went away and I was able to use it indoors and I stayed nice and warm.

That woodstove is my dream. We love in an old house in central Florida without a heart source. When the weather dropped down into the low 20s last week we were unprepared and freezing!

Was wondering if using Mr.Buddy with propane, do you have to open a door or window for ventilation in your home? Love watching your vlogs cause they’re so knowledgeable !! Greeting from 🇨🇦

I want the cooking stove and the wood burning stove. I need to show my husband this video. Thank you beautiful! I love the feel of a fire. We have a big buddy, that’s our plan so far. Been collecting propane tanks.

That’s slick how you used the corrugated steel for lower half of wall. Cost me 11k to do all pine car siding in my 700 sq ft cabin

Thanks for showing us to install the wood stove…we live in Texas and after the power was shut off during the cold winter we decided that we were going to save up and try to buy a wood stove or an alternative heat/cooking source. For now we have a heater like yours. We have been trying to become more and more self sufficient as much as possible thanks to y’all showing us that it is possible to live like that! You guys are so awesome and I thank you for all y’all do!

Nice woodstove. We have a small cabin on the ten acres. It was built over the weekend years ago by my cousin. He milled his own lumber. He put a small wood stove in the corner with beautiful stone under it and on the 2 walls. It may be small, but it warms the place up quickly. We have a Mr. Buddy heater as well. We loss electricity alot and the last area on their list to clear up to get electricity back running. We joke around that we are the" generator village." Suddenly, you hear all the generators kick in when the electricity goes out. We tend not to use ours unless it is out for hours on. There are 8 families that live back here in the mountains

Thanks Doug. Clear instructions, as usual. I bet that dry oak wall was HARD! Does my heart good to know y'all will be staying warm during this cold snap. God bless. Take care. And I know you're staying vigilant.

Thank you, Doug! I'm not fond of Amazon, but I found a good selection of Mr Heater products on Walmart online. I'm going to get the little buddy & the propane line. You & Stacy have helped me to realize that I can't do everything, but there are things that I can do.

Doug, I am in my 3rd month of the soapstone Hearthstone Heritage IV Hybrid with 25-hour catalytic burn radiant heat. Plan was for back-up, but love it so much and gas prices up, so full-time and use ashes for chicken dust bath and garden! It doesn't heat all 1800 sq ft, but bedrooms are better cooler anyway!

We bought our little log home with a wood stove. I only use it for emergencies. We have in floor heat and a split system in the wall for heat and air conditioning. Also this march bought a stand by generator running on propane. Bought the tank too. So 3 ways to heat house.

Living on the peak of a mountain, the electricity goes out periodically. We installed our wood stove at the beginning of the winter season and have used it daily. Nothing like the coziness of wood heat. Now, no worries.

We Love our wood stove, it has cut our power bill in half and really keeps it warm and cozy in our little cabin. We did a little side job in exchange for our stove, so the price was right!
