Today, we are installing threaded brass inserts (M3 thread) into a Polycarbonate housing, using a drill press, some all thread, and a soldering iron.

Very complicated way of doing it. Turn yourself up a custom tip for the soldering iron that goes into the insert and just push them in without the drill press. I have been doing it this way for years, takes 1/4 the time. You don't need the alcohol. Just a suggestion.

Put the soldering iron heating element into the drill press- then simply put inserts onto tip and go.

alcohol and polycarbonate.....you may induce stress cracks. I know alcohol and acrylic hate each other lol

What hole sizes are you drilling or better how much material you need to be melted so the brass inserts do really stay rock solid into the holes? Expect that holes which are too big in size will reduce the accuracy of the brass inserts.

Hi, what is the tolerance of the hole? I mean if the brass insert is M3 what diamenter you suggest for the hole in the plastic part?

yeah, nice question. What should the recommended hole size for a M3, M4, M5 insert? does the hole need to be tapered?

Just as the insert was coming into focus...you pulled it away from the camera.
