Is there supposed to be a seal in the spindle in front of the new bearing you installed? Thanks for the informative video. You do all the testing so we know what to do and not do.👍🏻
@DentsideDepot11 ай бұрын
The spindle into the knuckle and the brake caliper bracket is metal on metal without a seal. The seal actually rides on the axle shaft flange inside the spindle and the axle housing is open to the air all the way into the inner housing seal. We have seen a tree grow inside the axle housing on a running truck in the past, so there is your answer! Thank you appreciate it as always!

Shorts and combat boots is the most Marine thing that I’ve seen all day. Semper Fi. Love the content. Keep it up.

Northwest Fab has nicer brackets. They use 2011 dodge 3500 rotors and calipers. 14” rotors
@roachwerks304310 ай бұрын
they are way more expensive and never in stock though. both kits use the same dodge parts

thanks for info. Question how are the brakes now better?

Did you need to change type or length of lug stud, i.e. shoulder/ knurle?
@DentsideDepot11 ай бұрын
Yes Sir, Doorman 610-382 is what I used, but many options are available. TM puts all possibles on their website which is really helpful, knurl needs to be increased.
@tylerblanton36511 ай бұрын
@DentsideDepot awesome thanks for the reply, my guess would have been less knurle because it didn't need to go through the rotor first then into the hub from behind
@DentsideDepot11 ай бұрын
Yes its actually because the studs I used are for a ram 2500 and have a very large knurl that is right under the head, where the dana 60 are smaller and the splined knurl is farther down the stud@@tylerblanton365

@DentsideDepot ok that makes more sense. I've been waiting for this video, I'm in the middle of a kingpin 60 build for my jeep. And hate the brake design, maintenance wise. I also Hate my obs ford dana 60 brakes. So much work lol

Hah well im glad this helps make a decision on better brakes!@@tylerblanton365

Have you compared the ford vs dodge piston diameter to see if you need to perhaps change the rear wheel cylinder size to keep the brake bias equal. Added area to the front caliper bores cannot be compensated by using an adjustable pressure reducing valve . Just a heads up so you don't end up with front wheels locking up before the rear wheels during hard stops. Spacers on the caliper bolts or grind the end of the threads. I like that kit. I wonder if a hub centric ring could be created to center the rotor better than stud centric . Just thoughts.

I appreciate the advice, but this truck has a Dana 80 in it with the same calipers on the rear and hydro boost with an adjustable prop valve.
@DentsideDepot11 ай бұрын
Good idea with hubcentric, already consideried that myself but the hub is not flat in that area so there is nowhere for it to sit. Factory rotors mounted on the back side.

Is that 8x165 or 8x170? What dia wheels are you using? I am trying to put 20" late model Super Duty wheels on my 1990 F350 4wd. The wheels i have now are crap, but the 20 x35 tires are new. It has a dana 70 on the front. Pulling my hair out!
@DentsideDepot11 ай бұрын
standard 8x6.5 and it fits wheels 17+ plus. Super Duty wheels are 8x170 and wont fit this or a 90s truck through 97ish
@Mr-er6fg11 ай бұрын
@@DentsideDepot I've heard wheels can be re drilled? Is that a thing?
@DentsideDepot11 ай бұрын
Hubs can be redrilled for a new pattern, but not wheels, just easier to get a new set. Many companies sell hubs that have holes for both standard and metric etc.@@Mr-er6fg

I just have one question. Where are Doug’s axles?
@Marino_Speed_Shop11 ай бұрын
Do they make the same kit for a Dana 44
@Kinginwar10 ай бұрын
Great work but never a dodge part on my 78' 60kp

Would this work on a Dana 60 REAR axle as well? I haven't seen any Dana 60 rear brake kits that have more than one piston and all before.
@aw9680Ай бұрын
Torque makes a rear brake mount kit. But it requires cutting the whole housing end flange off that the backing plate bolts to. Some heavy duty welding involved.
@fomocoloco717211 ай бұрын
Can you still use 16 inch steelies with this kit?
@roachwerks304310 ай бұрын
no. 17" wheels are very tight as it is. maybe with a massive offset
@bretstauffer374411 ай бұрын
Stay in touch , but I aint cutting 1/8 inch off for NO one...😂😂😂😂
@DentsideDepot11 ай бұрын
LOL, it is a very minor adjustment to the knuckle, I don't see how it could affect the strength of the casting at all. Its probably less than 1/8 total in the larger area. This is only an issue on the 78-79 castings, so 80 and up no mod needed from what I am told.

Sweet I need those. Funny to think first and second GEN Dodges had half ton breaks on them total junk.
