Installing Tow Hooks on my 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie (Ep51)

So two things to help out anyone watching this" 1) At 2:40 where your camera is pointing at, the black plastic panel with what looks like a bunch of black X's going across it, can be removed to provide a whole lot more room to work with. That black panel's function is for fuel economy and it drops down after you hit a certain speed. I can't remember the size bolt when I installed mine but I want to say 10mm? 2) At 8:32 the image of you removing that long 18mm bolt. Well, depending on the tow hook, the need for you to break that locking washer may not be necessary. As in this video and more specifically this brand tow hook. See at 9:20 when all the install parts are shown, it's a "U" washer and split rubber grommet. Meaning you can just slide the rubber grommet onto that bolt and then with the "U" washer just simply slide onto the bolt in between the"U" and rotate so that the bottom of the "U" washer covers the opening for that bolt where the washer is placed exactly at 9:20. Hope this helps!

I think the double-sided tape is to hold the bezel while you tighten the bolts down. I tried with the non-OEM bezels and they just popped out. I ordered Mopar bezels to replace these but they haven't showed up yet. The Mopar ones will click in vs. the Chinesium ones.

You don’t have to remove the 9 inch bolt completely. The runner bushing is split and you can put it around it.

Didn't need to remove the inside of the wheel-well.. but i guess it made it easier to film.

I just bought a '23 with no tow/recovery hooks. Get this, I ask the dealer about installing a pair for me. No, they can't do it. Well, ok, now I'm wondering about what the long-term relationship with the dealer is going to be like. It defies logic that all 4x4 trucks don't come with these hooks. I'll be installing mine very soon before winter arrives. Thanks for the informative video.

Thanks for the great comment boblinda. Yah… don’t get it either. I know the 2022 limited Ram did come with tow hooks. I’d be definitely chocked with that dealership. I did inquire thru my dealership about ordering and installing. They quoted me almost double the cost for the hooks more than what I paid for thru Amazon and of course an install fee. No thanks! Went ahead and proceeded on my own install. Glad the video helped! 😎MM

They probably get sick of the reaction when people hear how much they charge for parts and labor when you can get the parts and install them yourself so easily and reasonably. I bet the dealership would charge 3 times or more what they cost on Amazon….

Why does everyone take out the long bolt with hammering? You could just get it loose and slide the tow hook into it. Just cut the bushing so you can slip it over the bolt.

Thanks for the comment Phil. Wished it was that easy. My video would have been shorter. That portion of the tow hook does not slide onto the long bolt. Also, the Hex Head of the bolt does not go through the hole of the tow hook. Needs to be removed. As per instructions included in box. 😎MM

How did you get the auto air dam to lower ?

Is it possible that all those washers and grommets were split so you don’t have to pull that long bolt out?

Driving to Mexico 🇲🇽 you must buy separate auto insurance. Plus I wouldn’t trust non OEM tow hooks

Thanks for the comment James. I know the Limited did. Not sure about the Rebel, tradesmen and others. My Laramie was brand new. They wouldn’t even throw into the deal. 😢MM, lol.

It seems like Ram is eliminated a few trim items every year. 😂. The 2023 Laramie does not come with exterior wheelwell trim, but my truck did. 😎MM
