Matt, put the ISP gateway into bridge mode. The way you have it currently is that you're double NATing which can cause some issues like poor online game or VOIP connectivity.

@brandonfbarnes
@brandonfbarnes 16 күн бұрын
@@ObsessedGarage they can turn it off. It’s known as bridge-mode or bypass-mode depending on the provider. This end result should be the same. You want the ISP router to basically do nothing but convert fiber to ethernet and for the UniFi security appliance to do all your “routing” of traffic. ISP router should have wifi, DHCP and NAT disabled. Depending of the ISP company they may not be willing to turn anything off unless you have a business account with them. Every ISP has their own requirements for such things.

@@brandonfbarnes Agreed, where possible, business accont way to go, drop a line and a modem, let me worry about protection and distribution, but then again, I have done this for over 30 years, had an isdn and then t1 pumped into my house at one time + 2 42 u racks top to bottom with hp storage/servers and a nutanix block. nothing like 1K a month electricity bill.

Not familiar with tour ISP but if their router is not PPPoE you can likely just take the Ethernet off the ONT directly to the cloud gateway. Most ISPs won’t tell you about this… worth a try anyways.
@brandonfbarnes
@brandonfbarnes 16 күн бұрын
@@davidkopack7274very likely to require / know a gateway IP address to get it to work or the MAC of the Unifi gateway needs to be “trusted” by the ISP. But always worth a try in the chance the ISP is using DHCP and a “Yolo” config.

Have had Ubiquity in my home for a decade or so. It’s been astoundingly reliable, well worth the $1,500 or so initial price. Spec’ed, installed and supported entirely by me … switch, cloud gateway, six access points. First time I ever tried such an endeavor, worked out great.

Nice beginning, but I’m sure you will go to the rack mount stuff soon, they rack mount products are more OG spec - once you get more cameras and APs you will see the system needs to scale up and it’s very easy to upgrade to the more scalable stuff, they also have streaming audio amps, you may want to check them too.

As some may have pointed out, the 45W Switch Lite 16 barely has enough PoE budget to power more than two WIFI access points. The ideal replacement is the Switch Pro Max 16 PoE I would connect the Cloud Gateway Max to the SFP+ interface on the new switch via 10Gb RJ45 transceiver so all four access points can connect to the 2.5Gb interfaces If you go this route, don’t forget to add a dozen 0.3m Etherlighting patch cables to the cart

Matt, whenever your're ready for more Ubiquiti design stuff inlcuding cameras, door access, and rack design please feel free to let me know. I work on this stuff on a normal basis and have done dozens of installs, designs, and configurations using ubiquiti equipment. All of my family members are running Unifi equipment in their homes now. I'm Ekahau WLAN design certified, have 18 years of experience in the IT field, with 12 of that being at a corporate level. I reached out to both Chris and Bryce whenever you bought the new OGHQ and offered my services. Bryce and I talked at length about what the future holds for you the new building whenever i visted in August. I'm only an hour or so away in Lakeland and would be more than happy to come do any of this stuff inlcuding installation, i'd love being part of the process, not afraid of being on camera, and cable mangement is a passion. ~Big Headed Publix Friend James

But worth noting it has been bullet proof and I’ve been very happy with it for the past decade! Currently looking at the Dream Machine SE, Pro Max 16-Port PoE Switch, and 1 or 2 U7 Pro Access Points. Looking forward to this project and overhauling my AV rack. Thanks for the video! It also looks like some Park Tools are in the future... 👀

Honestly, I had higher expectations for an OG spec Unifi set up. The install is pretty clean, but spend some time on the r/Ubiquiti subreddit and get inspired. For your security needs you definitely need a UDM based rack. For OG spec I'd go UDM Pro, a Pro PoE switch, and a U-NVR. Throw in a solid rack mount UPS and get as much equipment hard wired as possible. Put the rack where your cabling is routed (right above that utility box would be perfect) to save making any unnecessary connections. I think Unified IT is based out of Florida so you could use them

Looking good, very similar to a sub-network in my garage that I just did. Don't bother with cat7 for the cameras, just run solid core cat6 and be done with it. You can do 10G over cat6 at reasonable lengths and your security cameras won't need that anyways (a NAS/media server or something would be pretty much the only thing that could saturate that).

Unifi is awesome. It's not perfect but nothing is. I think they have been doing it long enough now that someone who can figure tech out at a surface level can get it running. A lot of their stuff used to basically work for one use case, and if you needed something outside of the basics you would need to do all kinds of pain in the butt stuff like manually editing config files on a command line. However you can finally do pretty much everything from their admin UI. And if you can't figure it out between the internet, support, etc, you can find someone local to help you out as it's pretty common gear these days.

My existing U6 Pro in my garage hasn't had this issue, just my U7's. As others have stated make sure you have your channels set correctly then be prepared to set minimum RSSI on each AP. Also please be careful when showing the interface to things like your router (Unifi). You will expose things like your WAN IP address (the IP address your internet provider assigns you) and then you welcome the trolls to start doing stupid shit. I'm not sure what that mean. If you intend it as in insult, you might not be getting the intended result.

Also the jack termination is way better than the RJ45 and the Jack holds it at 110ft lbs and the RJ45 will eventually let go

If you were actually paying attention instead of trying to find a way to get offended, Ryan literally said it's not something he does all day in the video. Most of the people who are experts in building out cabinets and dealing with wiring you aren't going to find unless you are doing commercial work. He's a friend of Matts just helping him out getting something going vs designing the ultimate final solution. I'm a Software Engineer currently working at a company who builds out fiber internet infrastructure. Other big companies resell our networks for home and commercial internet service. He's doing great and far above having Geek Squad come out.

@@yayinternets Thanks man, I was feeling very self conscious during this whole process, and if I'm totally honest I did miss a couple things that I would have done slightly differently if I had to do it again, but luckily they're all things I can fix without any actual cost/loss associated, just some buttoning up.

You did a good job Ryan. I’ve been in boxes that looked like dog 💩. Your cable management was nice and tidy. One thing I’ll mention is that if you do this A LOT then get the Vertical Cable keystone crimper and the respective Vertical Cable keystone jacks. Punch down the whole keystone with one crimp.
