Nice to see you're giving it the full Monty with springs, guides, valves and stem seals. In my hay day I had a selection of brass drifts machined down so they'd sit inside the new guide whilst still pushing down on the guide, stopped any slipping around. Occasionally they'd need reaming out to size them. No doubt things have moved on now though.
@Badgertronix5 жыл бұрын
For the cost of parts it would be silly not too. A stepped drift would have been ideal for installing them but don't have any in my toolbox yet. Cheers

I've had a few valve guides replaced over the years including in an MGBGT years ago and the head looked just like that one. Lol !! I have never seen it done before though. The magic of KZbin.

That worked. I was a bit dubious about the bolt for both removing and installing (especially removing) but it seemed to go well. Nice one. cheers.

The bolt worked great for removing. I wish I had used something different to install them to avoid the burrs. Cheers

@@Badgertronix You must have a good eye. There was a risk of scoring the hole the guide goes into with the thread. I'd use something smooth but that's just me.

The valve guide needs a simple drift (which you could make with some scrap bolts) with a pilot that can fit into the ID of the guide. And this pilot should go in a third or a half, the length of the guide. Also the top side of the drift should be faced flat. This way the guide will go in without deviating from the vertical.

I am doing up a 948cc head and wondering if you used the grooved valve guides from ESM Valve Guide - 10M170GK Stem Seals - 10M186A Just wanted to get your opinion on using these guides and stem seals

I couldn't tell you sorry. If they come from ESM then it's probably the way to go

I didn't realise the valve stems were pressed in free like that. I thought there would be a narrowing or a stop inside the casting to let you know when to stop pressing. I'll have to remember that if i ever have to rebuild one of these.

Easily done with an air chisel and the right pilot. I reckon I could have done that one with a lump hammer and a few drifts.

I had to stop watching this one. Why did you leave your drift in the press when you were putting the new seats in? Surely it would have made sense to press them with the larger drift to eliminate all the arseing about with a rule.

@Badgertronix5 жыл бұрын
I did read about that somewhere but I can't remember why 🤔
@victorbitter5835 жыл бұрын
@@Badgertronix If you remove the end cap I'd bet money (lots of it) that it's wider than the piston. For it to have that size big end bearing, it would be impossible for the rod to fit down the bore unless it was offset. As far as I can remember anyway. cheers.
