odd? nah, i got my xp, on the internet, loaded with stuff like games, chatting clients, etc internet archive is amazing btw people overreact when they say "Windows XP will give you viruses as soon as you connect it to the internet" and i've had windows xp on the internet for about a year and a quarter of a year and no viruses. many people have connected it to the internet and no viruses.

Custom ISO are cool! We wanted to explore a raw vanilla approach for a more 2005 sort of experience. Very good point! Thanks for sharing and watching the video!

I'd like to see a drag race between this and Linux. Maybe put a newerish Linux Distro on the computer then install similar/same applications on both. I've never used Zorin but I'd love to see a Zorin pro/lite (I'd recommend PopOS but I think that would run super poorly on this old of hardware) vs XP battle where you set this computer up like you would if you were furbishing/upgrading your grandma's computer. Maybe a second hypothetical user who is a gamer wanting to play their favorite childhood game and a 3rd hypothetical user where a lower income person inherits this and needs to use it for school/university or as a daily computer.

Ooh! Great idea! We'll take a look at that. Perhaps a distro like Ubuntu Mate that is super lite but still tries to stay modern and mainstream

@@thenoplanchannel I haven't used light weight distro's in ages so I'm not really familiar with what's going on. I'd recommend an off camera drag race between Mate and Lubuntu and determine which makes the better base distro. I looked at some of the Screenshots on Mate's website and it looks like there are inconsistent UI Theme issues when using dark mode, which is the primary practical reason I looked at Lubuntu. Mate lists minimum specs required (a nice to have) where Lubuntu does not list minimum requirements (oof) That said, neither appear to support 32bit (x86) hardware and that computer is almost certainly 32 bit based on my best-guess of the age. If that is the case, neither of the recommended versions (Lubuntu or Mate) would work. But it could be a cool video anyways with some newer-iiiish hardware.

Do be warned that many newer PCs (2010 or newer) may exhibit complications when trying to install or use Windows XP. Many machines that originally came with Windows 8 or newer are incompatible with the legacy IBM boot procedure and cannot boot Windows XP or its install media at all. You may need to enable the Compatibility Support Module (CSM) in your firmware, but chances are the setting won't even be there at all in a machine made after 2018, so using a virtual machine will be your only option. If you are installing Windows XP on a modern machine, you will be unlikely to find applicable driver software for display and audio adapters. While Windows XP will boot and run some very basic games such as Pinball, the system will not be able to play sounds, and you will not be able to run any games that require 3D accelleration, and many games that provide software rendered and unaccellerated graphics modes will exhibit poor performance. You will likely find it difficult to find chipset drivers for machines made after 2013, which would provide power management methods to the OS had they been available. Running the system without chipset drivers will prevent you putting the system to sleep (or sometimes even being able to shut down) and will prevent the system from properly monitoring its own thermal status, putting the hardware at risk of overheating.

you can use xp online be fine only things you need to do to be more secure is update xp using legacy update. then after this get good supported antivirus like clamwin which is open source and supports older windows xp is one of them then get web broswer like supermium browser which is more modern browser for xp and up windows versions also this having common sense will go along way also those videos mainly being one of so called guy putting xp online and getting virus he had his firewall off and i believe his ports open of crouse that would happen he went out downloaded everything he seen i understand xp is long out of support that is ture yes that in theory does make it less secure but if you do what i suggested you should be fine

Disregard this and use XP Integral Edition instead.

Our goal here was simply a vanilla XP experience like you may have had in 2005. Custom ISO and special editions are cool as well! Thanks for the comment!
