Installing Z1's Nissan Frontier Catch Can Kit for all 3.8L and 4.0L V6 models

On today’s episode of DIYWILLY, I’m installing Z1's Off-Roads Nissan Frontier Catch Can Kit for all 3.8L and 4.0L V6 models. The catch can kit will condense the oil vapor from the PCV system and keep it from getting back in to the intake of the engine. Not all engines have fuel wash down of the valve and can cause oil and carbon build up to occur on the intake valves. This buildup on the valves can interfere with the valve seat, potentially causing a loss of power. For these reasons an oil catch can kit may help prolong the life of an engine.

Hello aykoro, Your gonna love the catch can. Make sure to check it often to figure out how fast your engine will use it. I found that every oil change was good enough to empty it. Mine was about 1/4 full. Enjoy that truck! Thanks for watching!!

Light is your friend when filming under the hood. So, you remove a plug at the bottom to drain? That will end up getting messy Prefer to just unscrews bottom, remove clean and re-install.

Hello Douglas, I did unscrew it from the bracket to empty it. There was a lot of oil in it. It does its job!! Wish I had shown how much oil was in it. I agree that the drain hole on the bottom would make a mess. Thanks for watching!!

Awsome Willy good info was a 106 here yesterday we dropped to 82 today but rained all day but after 60 hours of driving over 3 days did 1k miles a day I got in this morning at 2 am after being awake 26 hour and woke up about 5pm ready to eat go back to sleep start over fresh tomorrow Maine here I come 18 hour strait haul tomorrow

You only need a catch can if your engine is direct injected

Hello Steve, Yes there is a lot of debate whether you need a catch can or not…. I have removed the plenum many times and cleaned the oil from the runners. I don’t see any problem install the catch can to control the amount of oil vapor getting back to the intake. It will not hurt the engine either way. I’m pretty sure the Nissan engineers looked at everything when designing these engines. Thanks for watching!!! 👍

I would think that should help the catalytic converters last longer making the combustion burn cleaner, (less oil vapor contamination). Its too hot to work on anything right now up here in Mojave desert as yesterday my digital temperature guage 🌡read 120° and right now reads 111° . Nice install Willy,👍, btw are those hyd struts holding up the hood factory or aftermarket? I like those👍

How you doing Lou-eye, It’s only been as high as 92 here but it came too early I’m not ready for those temperatures. Those hood struts are aftermarket. I did an install video last year. They’ve been holding up well so far. Thanks for watching!!

Hello Tyler, Honestly I haven’t taken the time to check mileage on the truck. That wasn’t really the reason behind the mods for us. We wanted better performance for off-roading. The truck is not driven daily so would be hard to check. Thanks for watching!!

To answer your question about best mod for MPG.. I would say the Volant cold air intake and cat back exhaust are the best in my opinion.

You wont be able to smog the truck. I tried to smog my sti and they gave me a hard time about my catch can.
