my only suggestion as a seamstress is to leave a little more of a seam allowance around the bottom where you'll be sewing the triangles, so that you can open the seam flat when you sew across the triangle. not so many layers at once, and it'll sit better at the end because the bulk is better distributed. other than that, those look great, awesome job!

How simply beautiful they came out, nothing more than necessary has an elegance that complications mar. With zippers I find a little bees wax rubbed on greatly improves the slide & minimizes wear. Rolls Royce keep their cattle in with electric fence to minimize damage to hides used in their cars. Thank you for sharing!

30 seconds in you say experimenting with zippers which makes me think we are making a Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman costume. Meow! Excellent tutorial. These bags remind me of the faux leather or real leather bags you get from funeral home for paperwork. I think they were a thing in the 70’s and 80’s. I have a few I use for art supplies. Foil stamped funeral home logos on side.

Jimmy! I want so badly to help you with any leather work projects! Let me make you a wallet! And let me make some special wallets that match the stain glass window you made for your shop! All hand made! Also, I recommend 2 adhesives that will cut down on your "wait to dry time" significantly. Barge contact cement is #1. Weld Wood is pretty much the exact same thing and are both alcohol based. So either will do, but all you do is apply a small amount to each side you are attaching together. Let dry for 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes depending on amount used. Attach the pieces together, hammer down or use a squeeze clamp but I recommend a hammer as it is fast and effective. You can immediately continue with the build after this. The negatives of these adhesives is the smell. It has heavy fumes. And California says it has chemicals in the fumes that in high doses AKA people who use it every day, might have issues with infertility. The other leather adhesive I recommend is SEIWA Leather adhesive. It is a water based adhesive, so it does not give off strong fumes while using. It dry's almost as fast as the barge contact cement and you use it the exact same way. This adhesive is a little thinner than the contact cements, so it is easier to spread large amounts, but it is also easier to get places you do not want it. Besides the bonding strength of the adhesives, 1 big benefit of the contact cement is removal of accidents. I have yet to find a leather that this does not work with. If you get a little Barge or Weld wood on the display side of your leather. Simply let dry a little and then rub it with your finger. It will come right off and leave no evidence behind. I recommend Barge because it is; very strong, very fast drying, very little wait time, very easy to clean, very easy to fix small mistakes. The only negative is the fumes.

I don't think my Mom's old Singer* will do that thickness of leather reliably, but I've been making cloth zipper bags from upholstery remnants and they're handy for all sorts of things. *It's still a beast of machine, but it's not a pro leather machine. What 1960's engineers thought you would need to sew cotton for the next 100 years.

You'll find out when you start using the zipper by the yard that you don't need to spend the extra money for jacket zippers... as any zipper can be slipped together. That little tab on the jacket zipper just makes it easier, but zippers without the tab are just as doable. Besides, if your zipper is longer than your leather you don't need to take the zipper apart, it's just as easy to sew with the zipper all the way open but still attached at the end. 💖🌞🌵😷

If you sew your bags like Jimmy did (either with the leather tabs or inside you bag) you don't need those metal stops that he showed 0:20 💖🌞🌵😷
