I liked your black t shirt and white jeans that didn't add up to 8. They were all cute and I think it's a general guide but I'm not sure I'd actually start counting my items. It seems like you can eyeball it and know if it's working or not. Just my 2 cents.

I think you look fantastic in all the outfits, especially the 9 point ones! I think it depends on the situation and where one is going. Personally, I don't thing glasses should count, as they are a neccesity (at least for me). Very interesting concept, I think if I'm going out, I would have a top, pants (hopefully... lol), shoes, jacket at the very least. I think one print per outfit is enough and I always wear my small gold hoops, 2 thin Tiffany braclets and fitbit. I try to always look the best I can. Some times though I do a minimal tee and jeans look.

I am liking the 8 point rule!!! Regarding one of the outfits you critiqued, it’s great to have layering options when spending time outside, so keep the tank top, “we” shouldn’t skip sunglasses, especially on a sunny day, so why not skip the bracelet, since it is not essential.

What a neat idea, I'm going to have to try this. I have no choice but to wear eyeglasses. They are quite neutral with my features, in fact I chose a neutral colored frame so it would go with all my outfits. I hope it's ok that I don't count that as a point as I feel they are an understated necessity. Based on the point system (and not counting my eyeglasses) I'm only at 4 points today. Luckily the day was only spent doing laundry, lol. I'm going to up my points tomorrow.

Interesting guideline ! But I would use it as a ballpark. To my eye, your 7 and 9 point outfits are just as great as the 8-point ones. All are accessorized just enough. The 9-point outfit is my favourite, just perfect, you don't need to remove the tank !

Thanks, Nancy, for sharing this concept. I found it to be very helpful when deciding what to wear. I have known many people who prefer simple outfits, but even they have to dress up once in a while. I am in the opposite camp. I love clothes and enjoy experimenting with fashion, but I tend to wear too much. The 8 point rule is flexible enough for the majority of people to build a better outfit when they want to get dressed.

Great was of checking an outfit! I love the 8 points rule! Thank you for passing it on to us! I will definitely try and check my next outfits. When you should us a 9 point outfit of yours I didn't feel it was too much. So I think the system is a bit flexible. I also think if a dress is very simple in style and the colour neutral is neutral (eg black) it might be counted as one. On the other hand if a top doesn't have a pattern but a special addition like rushing I think it could could as two.

Hmmm that a really interesting idea. I find as i she that I'm usually taking something off, like if it's casual during the day I won't wear both earrings and a necklace unless one of other is discreet. I have to wear glasses so if count that as just part of who I am. A great video thank you.

I like the idea, but I do have a nit pick on your points. You counted your glasses every time but you always wear glasses, just as you said you always wear the same 2 rings. So your glasses are part of your aesthetic regardless of what you're wearing. Isn't that a little bit of a cheat to adding an extra point? You do always manage to look fab though.

Yesterday I spent the day at home. I wore a shirt, cardigan, plaid skirt, tights, shoes, earrings, watch and glasses. That's a fairly typical outfit for me and comes to 9 points. If I had gone out, I would have also needed a bag, coat and scarf (and umbrella!). Quite soon, I will also need to add a hat and gloves. I don't think this scheme is suitable for those of us who live in cold climates. Even in what passes for summer here, I often need a jacket or trench coat.

For me, my change would have been to get rid of “printed” pants, but I would not have bought them in the first place. Love the rest. The cardigan and the shirt are each one point. A denim, jacket, blazer, or coat are considered 2 points.

I've found it's really useful when I see someone in an outfit I love. When I review what makes me like the outfit, I do a quick count of how many points they are wearing and usually it's exactly 8 points!
