Thanks for this. My front towards groin on my right hip has been bothering me for a while, even causing limping in every day walking. A dull discomfort wrapping around to the rear as well. Exactly where you said we’d be working! My doctor took x-rays and says it arthritis and won’t get better until I get a replacement. Sent me to a sports message guy. Same thing but I swear the pain is from a tightness or lack of flexibility and doesn’t hurt with every single movement like I feel arthritis would. I had it in my mind that this would be my last season before hanging up the pads but this gives me hope. Even just doing some of your techniques is giving me relief. Can’t wait to get into it and give it a real go. Obviously the xrays don’t lie and the arthritis is coming but this gives me real optimism that I can play to age 50 at least. (Currently 46)

Glad to hear it is helping a bit - you are right that x-rays don't lie, but a lot of us have degenerative changes that aren't causing any pain yet, so I am glad you kept searching for a solution and glad that this helps give some relief anyway. You've got a lot of pucks left to stop!

I always feel it most tight in the front and the side of the front which you mentioned there, thanks for the stretches too

Thanks for this, great for endurance runners as well as we tend to get very tight in the hips.

That's the truth - I remember how mine would get so tied up when we were running marathons.

Yeah, it is a great one isn't it? It is always a little odd to teach, but you guys loved it so I figured I would share it with the rest of the goalie world :)

Mechanically, is that sitting knee raise _stretching_ the psoas? Really need to know this.

No - contracting it if I understand your question.

@@goalietraining Thank you for that. I began doing these and it feels great when I get up and move. Like the bearings have been greased sorta. I'll continue them for sure.

Thanks Maria! This past season I felt a pain in the outside of my hip after most skates. A stretch helped but the pain came back after the next session. This spring I found a couple of exercises (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eISVh2VubK6IZrM) that I have been using that looks like they have build up the muscle that I was lacking. The video is in Swedish but from 3:30 you can see her showing the the four different drills (I only use the first three). There might be something that suits goalies better as this is marketed at runners. The muscle that is worked should be the iliotibial band.

Sorry man - I don’t really have time to watch the other video, but if you are getting ITB pain, then I would work on releasing the TFL and then make sure you are activating your glutes/Glute med properly. You can check out the episode of Goalie Training Pro TV I did on The Hip. If you are still getting pain, then I would definitely get it checked out by a sport physical therapist.

In response to this video, do you have any experience with this device: pso-rite.com/ If not, does it seem to target the same muscles you're referencing here and potentially provide the same relief? THX

I haven't used it - - basically does the same thing though - - but your hands are free :)
