By coincidence, this is the one thing I worked on yesterday. Small, poor waves, but on every ride I made a point of facing forward. Makes cross stepping much easier. It helps on forehand waves, too. I filmed the whole session. Thanks.

Another excellent video. So thankful for the effort you're putting in to help us backhanders on rights! Been working on consciously turning my hips and shoulders, but the simple tip of putting a hand over each rail is great and will try to use at next session

oldie but goody! great video as always ... ive been hitting my backhand drop knee more and more often due to your advise to keep my chest facing the front of the board and my cross stepping is way easier just walking forward on the board facing much more forward, thanks for that!

Thanks for this! Relatable advice again. I try avoid my backhand but find myself enjoying rights lately, also improves left to right turns and it improves my approach and style noticeably when going left.

No worries at all! That's such good feedback and I agree it helps with those aspects immensely! I love the progression of learning your backhand bottom turn before the forehand cutback, rotations are similar and is a nice way to ease into it, Thanks!

Hi, could you please explain one day how to paddle out while "sitting" on the board? Thanks again for all the great Video's
@BenConsidine2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ulli! do you mean on your knees or by sitting in a long sitting position on the board?? Will do my best to answer :)
@ullischneider9912 жыл бұрын
@@BenConsidine hi Ben, sitting on the knees, thanks
@BenConsidine2 жыл бұрын
@@ullischneider991 No worries! It can be tricky if the boards not wide or stable enough, so that's the first thing. But otherwise you want to position yourself in the wide point of the board (where its most stable) and keep a low centre of gravity - bottom on heels. It is also easier to keep balance with speed, so as you gain momentum paddling you should feel it start to become more stable. Good question though and may be great to cover in Tip Time! Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding that or anything else!

a constant struggle for me. thanks for giving me some practical things to focus on. Riding backside can be so much fun, but too often I get it all wrong on the pop up because I am facing the beach

Hey! riding a prototype I created with south coast surfboards which is not yet released, it is similar to the Nova Stella at South Coast Surfboards though so definitely check that out!

Cheers mate! Quick Q. Is it ok to shuffle both feet slightly up/down when it's too small a distance for a cross step (often to get you right over the fins) or should you always be going for nice, clean cross steps? I'd say I'm fairly close to advanced in my longboarding :-)
@BenConsidine2 жыл бұрын
No worries at all! For the shuffling I'd say its definitely okay to shuffle a small distance to slightly adjust/correct positioning on the board! I would just avoid that at the nose, so not shuffling both feet forwards to noseride, making sure your clean cross stepping gets you there if possible! Yewww!
