I made this for my Christmas dinner since I don't eat pot roast -- it was fantastic. Doubled the recipe, used canned beans, had to cook for 16 min on pressure instead of 8. Came out watery so I left it uncovered on slow cook for a couple hours and it reduced down to a beautiful thick masala. Super easy.

I'm not much of a cook, but last night I made your Instant Pot Chana Masala and wow, it came out great!! I woke up this morning with the taste still in my mouth. Yum. My daughter asked where I got the recipe from and I told her from a KZbin channel, Rainbow something. She lit up and said "Rainbow Plant Life?" She's a vegan and it turns out she follows you too. So we did some bonding over your great videos. I really thank you for making it so simple. I love Indian food and in the past I've looked at recipes for some of my favorite indian foods, but they are always so complicated that I got discouraged. If you can make it simple enough that even I can make great Indian food, then you've really accomplished something!!

Delicious dish, producing luscious aromas that wafted through the house for several hours afterwards! Cooked according to the recipe, but included a 15 minute post-pressure cook medium-heat saute, in which I added a bunch of baby kale. Also, added a touch of sambal oelek to my bowl for extra heat and acidity. Finally, be sure to squeeze in the lemon juice as the recipe suggests!

@@pragawa Is delicious - I added a tad more liquid because I used fresh tomatoes that looked up to it, and I eased into the spices - I came home from work, added the extra teaspoons of coriander, cumin, and red chili pepper, and added another can of chickpeas because it was so popular it was almost gone before I began and let it all slow cook an hour to blend. Even so, everyone at work was lusting for a bite after smelling Ver. 1.0 wafting through the office :) Very happy and will be to the molecule on the recipe on my 2nd go. I’ve made chana masala before stove top, bought your cookbook, and made this recipe from your cookbook in my new Zavor multi-cooker. It was delicious, but needed to watch your video to answer a question: Did you mean Western bay leaf (Laurus nobilis) or Indian bay leaf (Indian cassia/ Cinnamomum tamala). I saw you used the Indian bay leaf in the video so used that. I dry sautéed the veggies without oil, used a bell pepper instead of a chili and substituted paprika for the Indian chili pepper (so it wouldn’t be so hot) and used chana masala instead of garam masala. After the beans were cooked, I added two cups of chopped cauliflower, simmered for twenty minutes, added two cups of peas at the end, and blended around two cups of the mix in the Vitamix and added it back to thicken it. Thanks so much for bringing Indian food cooking to the multi-cooker. With all the Indian stores around and Amazon, don't hesitate to use Indian herbs and spices.
@nicolemichelle76644 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this! Although I grew up in California, and lived a few years in India, I never took time to notice that the bay leaves were different! Living in different countries, I've gotten so used to using what I can find....

@@nicolemichelle7664 I'm in California too, have traveled in India and like to cook a number of Indian dishes. I ordered an Indian cassia/Cinamomum tamala tree on line, planted it in the back yard, and it's thriving, 7 feet tall now. Now there's always leaves for whatever I want to cook. It's especially good in chai.
@nicolemichelle76644 жыл бұрын
@@maraschaeffer3010 I live in Malaysia now--I expect the bay leaves here are of the Indian variety, but quite a few western imports are available--fewer since the pandemic.
