Use pineapple or apple juice instead of water.. make bbq sauce from pot juices.. boil down and apply to ribs

do you add anything else to the sauce or literally just reduce the juices?

Thanks Flo! This is exactly what my mom did back in the 50's. We had ribs just like this. She put about a table spoon or little more of pickling spice in with the ribs as they cooked or boiled. My Dad was cook in the Navy during WWII and made the BBQ sauce using ketchup, brown sugar, a table spoon of mustard and a table spoon of dried ginger. Back then it was so exotic. I had forgotten how good it was! I enjoy my instant pot.Thanks again!

i remember so many years ago my mother presssure cooking dinner. i think it's an excellent way. for myself, i live alone, i steam everything. i think microwave is good for the break room at work, but i don't own one. steam or if you have the family and need lotsa food fast then it's pressure cooking. i was reading about people at high elevations not being able to boil water. pressure cooker would really help them prepare family meals.

Ribs are the bomb in the Instant Pot! I find that the pressure renders off quite a big more fat. St. Louis cut, Kirkland's salt free seasoning, salt, pepper in a pinch are good instead of a rub. I do one rack at a time cut in 4 sections, bones pointing up, for 10 minutes, natural release then wrap tightly in foil for about an hour while I prepare the rest of the meal. (can be done the day before in several batches for a crowd or tailgating take out of fridge an hour and a half before saucing and broiling) I believe the rest in the foil makes them super moist! (still rest in foil at room temp for an hour before fridge) I use a cup and a half of water or beer in the IP and for saucing I mix 50/50 rib drippings with Bull's Eye Original sauce. Good eatin'! I leave the rib slabs in 4 sections, basting them twice on each side under the broiler, then cut into individual ribs before serving.

A great combination that I do is first smoke the ribs and then use the pressure cooker to speed up the cook. They come out perfect and you can avoid the liquid smoke that many people use to emulate the smoker.
@FloLum7 жыл бұрын
Brilliant! I have no desire to use liquid smoke.
@underourrock6 жыл бұрын
Liquid smoke is made from smouldering wood. I, too, like to smoke, but nothing wrong with the liquid variety either.
@learntobbq6 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong except what wood produced the liquid smoke? If you were seasoning with salt would it matter what salt? Kosher, Himalayan pink, sea salt, ionized. The weird part is smoke is, even more diverse like oak, hickory, peach, apple and the list goes on. Liquid smoke at best is like using plain salt. Yes, it will give you salt flavor but it not going to give you a unique taste based on what you want to accomplish during your cook.
@underourrock6 жыл бұрын
Learn to BBQ I don't disagree that real smoke is better. I do disagree that liquid smoke is like plain salt. Liquid hickory smoke is like hickory smoke. Liquid mesquite smoke is like mesquite smoke. You can use more than one kind of liquid smoke.... You just don't get the same time exposure unless you use it as a marinade. I would agree that it still isn't the same as a long smoke, but that isn't the point. The point is that liquid smoke is better than no smoke at all and that liquid smoke is literally wood smoke caught in water vapor. So, while you don't get the smoke ring you still get a good hit of flavor from real smoke. Keep an eye out for different liquid smokes or make your own....
@underourrock6 жыл бұрын
Learn to BBQ to answer your question more directly: real wood. It says the variety of wood on the bottle of liquid smoke. I have both hickory and mesquite in my pantry for making jerky and marinades when I don't have time for the smoker. Check out the ingredients.

I love my new Insta pot! It does so much and replaces so much stuff! I also love ribs, however there are just some things for me that will always be better roasted, and ribs is for sure one of them. Covered for about 45 mins on a high heat, then uncovered with heat lowered and periodically basted and slathered with bar-b-cue sauce until perfect. I still remember the first time I tried cooking them, putting them straight to the barby, no boiling or any method of tenderizing them, just straight on and the amazement i had at just how incredibly tough they were! My friend laughed so hard at me when I told him about it. He said you need to boil them first, to tenderize them fool! lol. And that's exactly how did them for a long time until I discovered roasting. Less flavor loss.

I do believe my computer is reading my thoughts. I was just outside enjoying the unseasonably, warm weather when I espied my BBQ and wondered to myself if I should try preparing ribs with my recently acquired pressure cooker before tossing them on the grill. I just sat down to take a break from yard work and when I opened KZbin this video popped up as recommended viewing. Hmmm. I've steamed ribs on the grill several times before but it's quite time consuming and messy with lots of foil to toss out. This would be so much faster, less messy and, I'm sure, just as tender. Thanks for sharing.

I like your relaxed, easy going, natural confidence style of speaking while showing me how to cook ribs and also where to buy them. I might try this. I think it is a good idea. However, the 1 cup sugar is that really necessary? There is a lot of meat though.
@FloLum9 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate the feedback. The brown sugar helps the sauce to get sticky and caramelized but you can certainly cut back on the sugar. You'll have to experiment to see what you like.

Great video Flo Lum! UPS just delivered my instant pot but it's still in the box because I needed to watch a few videos first! Your video sure did help! Also for those looking for an instant pot you're in luck. Wal-Mart just rolled them back big time to compete with Amazon and Wayfair. If you apply for a Wal-Mart credit card you get an immediate $25.00 off anything so this will help too!

I made this recipe in my InstaPot and it came out great. Thank you. My wife is Cuban and she makes the best "Flan", but I mad your Crème Caramel in the InstaPot, and I have to say I spent a lot less time and I think it was just as good as what my wife makes and spends a lot of time on . Thank you for teaching us how to make great meals in the InstaPot. Nho Mai.

Those look great. I was thinking it might have been a little easier/faster to just dip each rib into the sauce. My mouth is watering!!

Just found out about the pot, and your channel. Really good work all around, and thanks! Will be checking further into recipes for this device - it's cool and you good people do a great job of showing it's potential. A bit of a pun there. :-)
