You just blew my mind... Taking out that crash hit makes the groove sound way more contiguous... Such a simple change that makes it sound more organic--less mechanical.

I only have a kick/snare/hat setup at home so when I move on to a full kit, I sparingly use the crash heck even sometimes never.

He kinda addresses that in the middle of the video. It’s not an absolute (there are definitely times to crash on 1!) but there are a lot of folks, especially younger players, that get stuck in a rut of ending every 4 bars with a crash on 1. I interpreted the video as really being more geared toward those folks.
