$800 for a panel on a window is crazy expensive. I really wish there was a cheaper way to soundproof windows.

I made my own. Local glass company cut the sheets to size for me. Way cheaper than big box store. Bought a kit online for magnetically sealing the panels. Huge reduction in sound vs the single pane window I had plus better comfort due to no air leakage. Amazing

$800 is crazy! Make your own, buy a piece of polycarbonate / Lexan, and put a frame around it. You can get a 4x8 sheet for $250-300. It did go up in price from covid because of big demand for it. And put it behind the blind so you can still open and close it.
@segundacuenta726
@segundacuenta726 Ай бұрын
This. You dont want to lift a window with glass which can break and is heavier than polycarbonate. I'd go for single pane though, the thickest you can. The charts show that single pane that is thick is as good or better for low frequencies than regular thickness double panes.
@DonTruman
@DonTruman Ай бұрын
But... you can no longer open the window. Or adjust the blinds. And if you're renting, it's useless to you if ever move, because it's custom-sized to that particular window.

He should have put that money into a more quiet generator. How does he ever run that without the neighbors complaining?

@lym3204 Well, I presume the generator was just used for testing purposes for this video, not something he does regularly.

Since sound can't travel through a vacuum, I wonder if you could connect a valve to the acrylic pane, and remove most of the air between the acrylic and glass. You'd have to make sure the seal around the edges is airtight first, but that might be able to reduce the sound level to almost nothing.

These expensive Indow window coverings are NOT worth your time or money. Bought them for two windows in my mom's townhouse about 4 years ago. The "measuring system" is a joke as when they arrive, there's a rubber gasket around them that makes your 1/8 or 1/4 measurements completely obsolete. They barely reduced any sound. NOT worth the money.

When you live in a suburban area which is populated by mostly quiet people, .. but have 3 to 4 families who just let their children scream, shriek, shout, and yell at the absolute top of their lungs every second, non-stop when they're playing outside, .. this shouldn't be the solution. The solution should be neighbors agreeing to actually approaching the parents to let them know this is not ok. When you can hear these kids from a few homes and even a few streets away, in your home with all your windows shut, it is a matter of complete ignorance and lack of courtesy and consideration for others around you. .. it's also a case of negligence, and a lack of parenting. "It's just kids being kids" is not a reasonable excuse, it's a cop out. Kid's don't have to scream like they're being attacked by a wild animal to have fun. It's not ok, it's not right, and people need to start going to their town and filing complaints, shouldn't have to keep shut up in your home with the windows closed or blocked with panels like this to escape such ignorance.

I don't think the negative comments are against him. It is definitely about the cost. If you own the home, it's a waste of money if the window needs replacing. Looking at the window, I'm guessing $1500-1800 to replace. I just had huge single hung replaced at $1100.

Not really, it's an expensive option for the average person and not very practical on top of that. You can't even open the window after installing. Its not a good option and the video is waste of time a for most people.

Depending on your skills and size needs you could make these fairly easy. Still not very cheap but cheaper, A sheet of 48-in x 96-in Clear Acrylic Sheet from home depot is around $300-350 Canadian . Cut that to Size and either put on a wood frame and a stick on compression gasket or look for a gasket channel for the acrylic. The wood frame would be the most sturdy for sure.

How to soundproof loud footsteps n workout sound from upstairs neighbors? The floor/ceiling is paper thin, in this apartment and I’m loosing sleep due to it
@novantha1
@novantha1 Ай бұрын
Depends on the material of your roof but basically any material will block sound. You could cut some strips of foam to the width or length of your walls and then wedge it into the ceiling. Rinse and repeat across the whole roof and it definitionally will cut some of the sound. Depends on how much height you’re willing to give up, but I think around six inches would be pretty noticeable. If you’re willing to use tape or an adhesive it would be a bit easier because you could use basically any foam and just pair a bunch of small sheets together. Note: Do check the regulations in your area regarding what you’re allowed to do before you do anything that could damage the walls / ceiling of your apartment.

When comparing sound levels in decibels (dB), it's important to understand that decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale. This means that a change in decibels does not correspond to a linear change in perceived loudness or sound pressure level. This means that 55 dB is 10 times more intense than 45 dB in terms of sound energy or intensity. However, if we talk about perceived loudness, which is a bit different: Humans perceive loudness in a manner where an increase of about 10 dB is perceived as roughly twice as loud.

This will not work at all. I have an aluminium window with triple glazing: one triplex glass 11 mm thick, one ordinary glass 6 mm, and one more triplex 9 mm thick. STILL doesn't block all the noise from the street! And this thin toy for 800$ will? 🤣
