Most of us don't NEED to "upgrade" unless we can't take photos we want to, with the kit that we already have. I don't use 95% of the settings and stuff that my T3 has. Maybe changing or adding a lens is actually more useful than a new camera. Years back I saw an exhibition of photographs of folk living on a remote island, north of Scotland. It was a very poor community. One of the old guys said despite all the hardships "we were happy. We never needed more than we had". That's always stayed with me.

I love the idea of spending money for new experiences instead of buying things. although this summer when my XT20 broke down and I went abroad without it, I felt a bit sad not being able to capture things around. also traveling with a camera helps with networking and breaking the ice on conversations with strangers 😅 being without a camera helped me realize I’m kinda addicted to it

I first joined this channel to learn more about Fuji gear, but I keep coming back for more content like this! I bought the xt2 when it came out. I’m not a pro and it was my first “real” camera and I felt a little ridiculous spending so much but Ive been so happy with it over the years and have felt no need to upgrade. Ive stuck with the 18-55, 55-200, and 35f2 and recently 16f2.8 for a light setup - the 35 being my favorite. Love your art and your approach to things. Keep up the great work!

You can often find upgraded experiences right out your back door. It wasn’t until I explored an in-city park in Houston, Texas that I found a love for bird photography. The setting and variety was amazing and it had been there the whole time looking me in the face. Literally only a 10 min drive.

I recently upgraded from the x-t20 to the x-s10. Since I got the x-s10, I practiced a lot more because I feel like the camera allows me to take better photos. But seeing your output using the x-t20 and the kit lens (albeit, a very good kit lens) makes me rethink my decision. I got the x-t20 back in December 2019, and a few months after, the pandemic hit. Looking back, I never really had the chance to use that camera and maybe I should've used the money to upgrade to go on a trip with it, instead.

But I was/am shooting always the same surroundings so "WE" decided to use the extra $$$ for widening our horizons and booked a trip to visit some National parks in California this year. I bet the images from that trip on a 24MP Sensor will beat the crap out of some 40MP local garden shots :-). Thanks for sharing as always relevant content in your own unique style 🙌🙌

Totally agree. Trips are my life. I love to travel, photography during the trip is the engine which drives me on and on. I was 13 years on the road during my first 20yrs after quitting school, then I took the big step. 13yrs later, still in Bangkok, such an amazing city, an adventure at my doorsteps every time I grab my cam and roam about. Yet more trips out of here, by bike, or backpacking in the region, and still, the wish list of trips gets longer and longer... Work with what you have, learn its limits, work within those limits. And go on another trip!

Hi Omar! I was very happy that you came to my country, Portugal. Your video is a true platform to show the beauties of Portugal to the world. When you come back to Portugal, come to the North, but further inland... There are beautiful landscapes, good food, good wines and cheeses, and above all good people... I'm from Braga and that's why I'm suspicious when talking about my beautiful city. But if you ever come to Braga, you will notice that it is a very photogenic city, with an excellent quality of life... It is considered the Portuguese Rome because in every street you will find a church... In terms of architecture, Braga's baroque predominates, which it's a sui generis style... Well, but speaking of cameras, in my case, from Fujifilm, my first Fujifilm camera was a Fujifilm X-20, not X-T20 but X-20, therefore older. It's only 12 megapixels but the photos are incredible... For travel and family it's the best for me... I also had an X-T20 but since I wanted to buy an X-H1 I sold it to MPB and I bought the X-H1 which I love . As I'm not very interested in video but only photography, that camera is fabulous with its IBIS... But I'm going to buy the X-T20 or an X-T2 again. I recently bought an X-T10 and the X-T1, also fabulous cameras with breathtakingly beautiful images. For me, that's enough... I don't want new models because the sensor on those cameras is fantastic, I think it's better than current machines... They remind me of the tonalities of analogue photos on film from the old days. So I'm well served. And finally, there are two countries I would love to take a photo trip to: Cuba and Morocco. Because they are countries with places where colors stand out, magical places of color... Finally, just to tell you that I'm an unconditional fan of yours, I've been watching your videos for a long time and I've shared your ideas and photographic perspectives. Receive cordial greetings from here in Portugal, this garden by the sea planted!...

X-T3 + 18-55 + 55-200 was my go to travel combo for the longest time. That is what I had when I first started photography. Then I replaced the 18-55 with the big ole 16-55 2.8...So big. Problem became FOMO and taking a bunch of gear in preparation for the unknown...Which causes one to be dragged down by weight and choices. Makes you not want to take out your camera. Going to Portugal and Italy in a few weeks. Going to go back to just X-T3 + 18-55 + 55-200. I'm giving myself a 2kg /4.4lbs gear weight budget. No more FOMO.

The 16-55 is the most versatile lens I've ever used (just that focal range, I'm not giving Fuji THAT much credit LOL) and is the one I use 90% of the time. When I did a two week NYC trip, that's what I learned. The 16-55 is almost ALWAYS what you need. Even for landscape. If anything, you don't need the 55-200.

Made me realise I could have just stuck with my X-T4. Also took my GoPro attached to my Brompton fold up bike which I took with me - I have the most amazing memories captured now. Could not agree more, but then I love to travel and to get out of my comfort zone, especially wandering through cities at the crack of dawn capturing iconic locations without the crowds and with great light. If you're intimidated by foregin travel, consider the national parks in your home country or doing a photography workshop. Some are quite expensive, but not all, and they provide an opptorunity to learn from pros, visit incredible locations you might not find on your own, and enjoy the company of other photographers. I've done several in Europe and in the U.S. national parks, and they have all been great. I'm off to Italy in a few weeks, first Rome on my own and then for a workshop during Venice Carnevale. My bucket list includes India, Vietnam, the Dolomites and the Lake District. BTW - I use a Canon 80d with a Canon 15-85 and 10-18. But with my old Canon 60d as a backup body my kit is too heavy and I'll probably be switching to a Fjui XT-5 with the 16-80 and one longer zoom before my next trip. I won't check baggage and I need to lighten my load with the airline carry-on weight limits.

I shoot professionally, and I'm using 2 XT2s and a Pro2. I really thought about the XT5, but this is the first XT series camera that doesn't have a battery grip option. Dealbreaker. And when I really thought about it, I realize my cameras focus fast enough for my shooting, and I'm totally happy with the image quality, especially in low light. So why upgrade? Total agree with all you said, Omar. I too, use my phone as much as my camera for photography and find that without blowing up the images larger than I would use or cropping significantly , which I tend to avoid by getting the framing right first time; find that my images impress those who view my photo books ; including professional photographers who assume all the images in the books are all from the camera alone . First and foremost , it is the image that comes first and how that invokes the emotions of the story it is telling as a single image or part of a sequence of images . Since I am now retired and do not need a heavy camera bag to give me neck ache, I now also enjoy my photography even more. Sure, there are moments it feels like the time I first took up a camera , but with the added benefit I know how to work the scene and the key controls to capture the image without spending long on post processing . Back in the film days I spent hours in the darkroom and thought nothing of it. How I wished I had digital cameras like we have to day with tilt screen . I don’t do video so a flip out screen is not something I seek or need. Megapixels are meaningless, as is full frame requirements . Sure , Fuji have some very nice cameras and lenses ; as do others ha ha; but that said means that understanding sensor size and working shutter - iso - aperture linked to meter readings and being able to use one’s eye to gage exposure and visualise the scene ; all contribute to an increased number of keepers from the experience . Having a good phone is invaluable when out and about without a camera . The camera produces better images , but that is a little like comparing enlargements of the images and it is clear that most of us achieve nothing by upgrading . Sure , new sensors and other wizardry tools in the new gear may help , but how often do we need any of that ? Invaluable reminder to us all , Omar. Brilliant video by the way .

Doing both this year! I had a Canon 6dii that really was nothing special but did the job. Decided I wanted to do more video and I'm upgrading to the Lumix s5ii to get a more future-proof camera for both photo and video. Also decided to sell off all my big canon lenses and just use a single 24-105 lens since I do travel a lot and live abroad and it sucks when you're going somewhere for several months or years and you need to use a whole carry-on for camera gear. This summer, I'm blessed to get to go to Switzerland and maybe even see Germany as well as spend time in one of my favorite cities - Istanbul. If I could go anywhere for an adventure, I'd love to see Cambodia and Vietnam or Nepal. If I was going to recommend a place to go see - it would be Ecuador. It's gorgeous and the wildlife is amazing. Zip lining, rock climbing, and repelling down waterfalls - it's all awesome and very cheap compared to a lot of places. For less adventurous westerners, I'd highly highly recommend Alaska. Just raw nature - it's incredible.

I think your absolutely right; I on the other hand did the opposite, it wasn't a camera but a hand made guitar I always wanted. I spent three years waiting for it after choosing the woods and his waiting list. I finally collected the guitar and was really disappointed, the money I spent on it I most probably would have been better just buying one off the peg and still had a four figure number in my wallet. With a special order you can't say I don't want it so I think I've only played it twice in concert and the rest of the time it's been left in it's case. I learnt the hard way, wouldn't do it again with any product even cameras, I'm happy with my XH1 and hopefully it will last me several years to come.

We're off to Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa this spring. In the past, I was guilty of taking ALL the lenses and paraphernalia and then being too weighted down to get around much without getting a backache. Or too paralyzed by which lens/focal length to use to actually take the photo. Or, I would just plain miss it while fumbling around. Can't wait to see more from your Portugal trip, Omar.

Recently was in Israel with my son and my goal was to try to capture the essence of place, particularly the street life in Tel Aviv. I have a Nikon Z5 and didn't want to carry the 50mm f1.8 lens which I consider to be large if carrying a camera across your chest all day so I bought the 28mm f2.8 lens and 40mm f2 lens for the trip. Was great for travel but when I went out for the day ( no bag with me) when I had the 2.8mm lens on I wished I had the 40mm lens and visa versa. However both were great and I enjoyed walking the streets and beach of Tel Aviv. What I captured leaves room for improvement and so you continue to be my inspiration.

I started photography because I needed photos for business. I knew from a friend that a big sensor is needed but I didn't want too much gear (I my father who always had a big and heavy camera bag with his Canon A1 stuff). So I quickly researched and bought the Fuji X70. After having this camera for some months shouting in A-mode I wanted to understand photography, focal length, shutter speed, depth of field - what is it? Then I learned. Watching hundreds of hours videos on youtube... I bought a little tripod, even ND-filters and the wide angle converter for my X70. It was all so much fun to learn. Making so many mistakes but learned so much. In this time period fall a trip to Porto, the Douro valley and of course coast in north Portugal. But after some time I wanted to explore the other focal lengthses, heard mystical stories of primes like the 35mm 1.4 and I wanted an EVF. So I needed a camera body to change lenses - and lenses. I bought a used X-E2, the 35 1.4 and the XC50-230. I still used the X70 for wide angle shots. That was really fun with these two little cameras. A trip to Portugal to explore the south of Portugal fell in this time. This was by camper van (very fun because wild camping was still allowed nearly everywhere in Portugal). Of course this was not the end. Once I looked through the EVF of an X-T2 I wanted another camera because I couldn't see much through the EVF of the X-E2. So bought I bought the X-T3 in late 2019. Then I came into bird photography so I bought the 100-400. In 2021 we spent half a year in Portugal in our van (not so much fun because of corona madness). We adopted a very very cute puppy there which is fast as the wind. Now I am thinking about wanting an X-H2s for better autofocus for fast moving objects... Now my camera rucksack is twice as big as my father's was back in the days. That IS a downside. But I am having fun! Fuji-fun. I never took a photo with another camera as a Fuji.

I loved my trip to Portugal; the warmth, the people, the geographic diversity. All of them are spectacular. Having said that, there are generally lots of unexplored areas close to home. Bill

Great video Omar. My wife and I just exactly did this last week. We did a 10 day road trip that took us to visit San Diego, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and Phoenix. It’s the first time we did this and I can say a relaxing one without the common stress associated when travelling. It really inspires me to plan for a similar trips in the near future. I do not own any Fuji cameras, however I really want to start with an X-T30ii as my first Fuji.

Oh no last year I was thinking about xt20, found your vids and finally bought it, so now for the last 3 weeks I can't stop dreaming about Portugal vacation, and now this. Thaaanks.

Hi Omar ! I hope you had fun and enjoyed Portugal... I seen that you did quite a tour ... Évora, Alentejo, Algarve, Lisbon ... I only have one camera and lens Xt20 with the 18 55 ... its a small enough kit and IMO IQ is enough for my travels ... in Portugal :) my home country

Hi Omar, Welcome back home! I've been anticipating this video, I hope you share more of your Portugal experience. We were planning to go next month but vacation plans changed. So instead, I upgraded. :) From the x-t2 to the x-s10, and I just love it! Especially the touch screen. The overall design is really working for me. Anyway, I'm reviewing some of your older video as a reminder for diving into the settings. So thank you!!

Greece/Crete would be my destination. Been to the homeland twice (once deployed, once vacation), but haven't been to Crete to visit my father's family... definitely a bucket list destination for me.

So true Omar! I spent 3 weeks in beautiful Poland with my EM1 mkii for less than an OM1 body. That trip was in September and I am still high on it. I know for sure I would not have been still that high on the new camera.

Anxiously await your videos each week. You never disappoint. My only camera at the moment is the x t20, thanks to you. I have been waiting for the xt5 for the ibis and weather sealing, but decided to hold off because the x t20 is such a great little camera. I do splurge on glass, because I know I’ll still be using it when I do upgrade. I’ve made two trips to Ireland and am planning another later this year. The money is much better spent on experiences. Highly recommend!!!!!!

I haven't been to Portugal for several years, but it's still as beautiful as ever. The photos from the X-T20 are superb. Their dynamic range in these conditions (higher than 800 ISO) shows that they are equivalent to a Nikon Z6 II (within 0.4 stops in reality). Long live the X-T20! The X-T20, the XF 18-55, and the XF 55-200 are amazing, as is the photographer Travel is life

Wow that's my kit! I travel with an xt20 (my first ever camera), the 18-55, and the 55-200! I agree the 55-200 actually is quite wonderful when you're traveling if you're willing to lug it around.

Well said Omar, I have decided this year that instead of upgrading just use the money on a trip to use the gear that I already have !!

I like your videos very much. You were in my city on your trip to Portugal (Évora). Too bad about the bad weather. Usually it is sunny. Always good to hear someone say to USE the stuff instead of collecting it ;)

Omar the voice of reason among camera youtubers. Great video man! I would love to go to the USA to visit national parks. And maybe do some astrophotography there.

Thanks Omar Good video my thoughts exactly, that’s why I bought a used Fujix100v to try travel photography and everything else the camera can do home and abroad.

I could not agree with you more. This past summer I went to Switzerland and Italy with just my Fuji X-T3 and the 18-55 lens. This minimal kit enabled me to totally enjoy my trip and capture beautiful images without the worry of lens or body choices. I am a firm believer in not upgrading my hardware unless there is a function or need that absolutely warrants it. The comfort of having a familiar tool in your hands when experiencing new or different locations, gives one added confidence in capturing those memorable moments and worth more than having the latest body or lens.
