Thank you for the wonderful video. I have been recruited to repair my mother in laws bobbin winder on her Elna, that has quit functioning (and I am a car mechanic, lol). Excellent video!!! 👍👍

Such a lovely machine, I have two of them. Re the bobbin winding, I always put the curved handle of my small scissors on top of the thread spool I am using to fill the bobbin and nudge the thread filling the bobbin so it winds evenly. And have a felt circle under the spool to hold and minimise the jerking.

Great video. Always great to watch to get ideas if things go wrong with a machine.

I have the exact machine. I’m looking for help as I removed the clutch and now can’t get the machine to work. It will engage if I turn it by hand but when I try to tighten the clutch the hand wheel wont turn?

Hello, thank you for doing such an informative video. I was able to isolate the problem with the bobbin winder on the vintage Nelco machine I just inherited. It appears the bobbin winder shaft itself is sized. It will not spin at all. I have tried oil on it, PB blaster and WD 40 trying to work it into any area. Is there anything else to try on a siezed shaft ?

Thanks. Maybe try a little heat. Be careful not to melt anything though. Not too much heat.

I press the pedal of the machine but nothing moves. may be the air ways have to be cleaned?

That thread holder on the top, mime broke off...do you think I can use almost anything for a replacement, like a long screw or stick?
@InStitches Жыл бұрын
As a temporary measure that would probably do. Just make sure whatever you use doesn't fall down the hole. Thanks.

Hi there, thanks a lot for your video! It was very clear and helpful. Now, I ran into a different problem. I dissembled the bobbin case, actually I dettached the black plastic ring that goes below, and I don't seem to be able to put it back together. I must be doing something wrong because once I screw it back to the bobbin case, it doesn't fit in the bobbin case hole anymore. Any ideas? Thanks a million beforehand!

Hi, separate the black ring and locate it in place in the machine. Then place the bobbin case over it in place and tighten the screws. I hope that helps. Thanks.

My Janome New Home winder wheel came off. None of these show the winders that are like that machine.

Interesting video. I have a vintage Necchi Esperia and when I disengage the needle to wind bobbin the needle still goes up and down. How can that be fixed?
@InStitches2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the hand wheel may be binding on the top shaft. Try lubricating it. Thanks.

I accidentally dropped my Elna a couple of weeks ago. Everything works fine now except the bobbin winder. I watched this video and opened the top and a V shaped spring came off near the winder. How do I put that back on. BTW Thanks you for such an awesome video!

1. Blow out all the cotton/dust crud with compressed air - working on a dirty machine is a big No-No.. 2. Wipe the old rubber crud off the handwheel inner part with 75%+ ALCOHOL. A simple dry rag doesn't cut it, and the old rubber pasty bits mixed in to the new rubber ring = shortened lifetime. 3. Oil the shaft of the bobbin winder before replacing the rubber ring. Other than that, very nice video.

Oh yes, totally agree with most of your points but if I had to explain the obvious in all of my videos, every time, they would be even longer than they are now. As always, blowing out and cleaning a machine is part of a full service. As you could see in the video, the handwheel was very clean without having to resort to using IPA. Some of these videos are designed to help people who may not have access to compressed air or other specialised tools and equipment. I just show the fix to get the machine up and running. Professional servicing is always recommended but sometimes people just want to get their machines going in the meantime. Thanks.
