When you refer to the antagonism and agonism going up and down from competition with Endo cannabinoids that are full agonist. I’m assuming you’re referring to thc being a partial agonist causing the high? but let’s say you take a full agonist at the cb1 receptor with a stronger affinity than any Endo-cannabinoid’s there won’t be any “down” effect because it will replace it with a ligand of equal or grater activity. it will only increase activity. Yet from what I understand a high affinity full agonist would still get you high.

I’ve had a severe eating disorder for 8 years and I entered a treatment program and THC has been the only appetite stimulant that not only helped me develop a sense of hunger, but eased my anxiety surrounding food. 10/10 Edit: firstly, thanks so much for the likes and supportive comments! And I know a lot of comments are calling the hunger munchies, which was accurate at first, but I need to clarify something. I was (technically still am but in recovery) anorexic for 8 years, which made me lose my sense of hunger. I had not experienced a hunger cue until I started treatment, even when smoking. Developing a consistent eating schedule was what created a distinct sense of hunger that was beyond munchies. I honestly thought it was more painful than anything. It was so odd that I described the feeling to my partner and he was like confused because it was normal to feel hunger for him. THC was more for my anxiety about eating food, but it did give me the munchies when I started eating regularly. I hope this answers some of the confusion

I know this vid has been out a long time, but as a nurse and lifetime learner, I absolutely love this channel! One of my favorite parts of medicine is the long and sometimes difficult names of things. I also know that we pronounce things very differently than other people in the same fields. I just have never heard this term (cannabinoids) pronounced the way you do. I hear yours as 'canna-buh-noids'. I've most frequently heard it pronounced 'cuh-NAB-uh-noids'. Isn't it funny how differently they can sound? Sort of like aluminum being pronounced so differently within the English language. This was a very interesting video. My brother went from 25-30 seizures a month to only 4 in the last 6 years since beginning regular use of cannabis. It has literally changed his life when all the pharmaceuticals failed him for nearly 20 years! Food for thought 😊

Thank you so much for this video. A bit of background as to why this is so meaningful to me. I was diagnosed with a tumor growing on my vagus nerve, scientifically a Glomas Vagale Paraganglioma. It is very rare, but thankfully it is slow growing and not cancerous. The tumor is over 8 cm × 6 cm x 3 cm, with tentacles that grow out of it. It s I'm a very small space, and presses on my brain stem and my spinal cord. Needless to say it is extremely painful. I lost the use of my left side, lost my ability to swallow because my left vocal chord is paralyzed, and more. I had to retire from my job as a federal law enforcement officer. Doctors prescribed lots of opiods and Benzodiazepines to help with the anxiety of knowing there is something in your head that is going to kill you.. after years of this, I was a veritable zombie, and so I quit using them. But that really brought back the pain. I didn't even get much sleep, because no matter how I laid on my pillow I was putting pressure on the tumor and surrounding nerves. I could sleep for about an hour. I was constantly exhausted and in terrible pain. Enter cannabis, in edible form. I grew up in the 70s and 80s, yet I had never even tried cannabis. My job, plus my time in the Army precluded any cannabis use. About 5 years ago, my doctor and I had a very long conversation. I was at my wits end and contemplating ending my life. We began talking about cannabis, I did tons of research, and my doctor wrote a prescription for me. It has literally saved my life. I can manage the pain, with no addiction, no feeling like a zombie, and the THC is a little bonus, since I don't drink alchohol. I have become an advocate for its use , especially for older people, my age or older. (I'm 56) we grew up being taught it was the devil's lettuce. It was a gateway drug, which it is not. I've never had the slightest desire to stick a needle in my eyelid and shoot up heroin. I make all of my own edibles, from butter, to candies to MCT oil infusions, all made with natural ingredients. And a freely will give them to others I know who are suffering from chronic pain. I do always tell them to talk with their doctor first. I have even begun growing my own Indica strains to use in my edibles. Cannabis has such amazing properties, and I am so grateful you made this video. Science rocks. So does your channel by the way.

@@fiha4186 Sorry for the delay, didn’t realize that you had asked me a question. Well, I guess for the most part, I was an everyday user. Most of that time was after I got home from work. I guess that I would smoke about a half to an oz per month depending on strength. I almost always smoked with a pipe, since doobs waste smoke. Several times I had to use the masking agent Vale to pass drug tests. I never failed once. There were times when I did take a break from smoking. Sometimes months at a time, yet those times were rare. Most of the time was just tracking some down, and forcing me to take unwanted breaks. Yet, since it became legal in Michigan, I have been smoking daily for over two years now. Generally I have been purchasing about 10 to 15 grams per month. Depending on strength. Ironically, after watching this video, I decided to take a break from smoking as I was starting to have sleep issues. That first 3 days were exactly as the video said. Not fun, but after the initial withdrawals, I am feeling “normal”. It’s been about three weeks since I have used. I actually had my first dream last night. @@southpawlibranine3511 it doesn't make anything worse overtime, it's all dependant on strain and yourself. If I'm anxious all the time and smoke sativa (higher thc) I'll get anxious or have a panic attack most likely, since I'm already an anxious person. Now if I'm anxious but smoke indica, I'll feel less inflamation, more relaxed and WAY less likely to have anything but a blast. About sleep, as someone with ADHD (diagnosed by professionals not self), It's either to be restless and agitated for 3h in bed before falling asleep for 5h or smoking, laying down and sleeping for 8-9h without "proper" REM sleep. The second option will still be better than the first option, at least for me it is. I'm more productive than ever because of that and never experienced a single anxiety or panic attack ever.

( ECS) endocannabinoid system is amazing ! all metabolically active tissue cells are ECS , even skin cells are loaded with cannabinoid activity in skin cells . cannabinoids are the lipid messengers that our cells use to maintain and modulate cellular homeostasis . they travel in retrograde ( backwards) being made in post synapses and then reconnecting at pre synapses and this allows cells to adjust to environment and connects about 70 trillion cells together at once in the ECS providing over all pro homeostasis response

As an adult I see my childhood abuse an over reliance and use of the fight and flight syndrome. When your living in this syndrome having to fight or flight or weighing up situations in this heightened level of fear you end up scarring your mind. Look at it like this, your life is a field of grass most people stroll through the field aimlessly, sitting, picking flowers, climbing trees having the great picnic of life. In my formative years I ran over the same path, the shortest, easiest, safest path and I wore away the grass and carved a runway into the earth. I did this because it saved my life and hurt others before I got hurt. I fought or I ran. It put a scar into the Earth of my mind and soul. But as an adult, in charge of my choices, I know this and this awareness keeps me away from the path and the potential dangers that could make me stray close to the path. It's still there, muddy and filled with pitfalls but my knowledge of it keeps me clear. Although, metaphorically its explainable, unless you "know" you can never really know.

It is not the THC that is helping you, too much THC harms more than it helps. Weed has not be legalized, THC has been commercialized. It is the balance of the plant that provides its value. Evidence now shows that THC itself causes arterial and heart inflammation. CBD is what counteracts that and gives is a more medicinal purpose. If you smoke high THC weed long enough, then you will start developing psychosis and could start to develop severe panic attacks as what causes the anxiety on weed is the inflammation of the heart. So it is not a stigma against THC, there are real serious concerns with prolonged use of it.

i smoked weed heavy for over 50 years. i am still healthy at 63. i work hard and stress my body hard. i am not on any medications. i remember my past very well. when i went for my ged i passed it with no problem. as for my reaction time i am still very fast. i worked at an auction selling cattle. your either fast or your going to the hospital. I don't have ptsd living outdoors most of my life. yes i had stress but its just a part of life growing up. been in car wrecks, still no ptsd. tragedies with family dying and still no ptsd. I drank heavy as a kid running away from home at 9. still no ptsd. at 18 i made a choice. weed or alcohol. the alcohol made me fight at the drop of a dime. wasn't much thinking there. the weed gave me the ability to think. sit back and relax. chill out. many of you who crossed my path can be thankful i chose the weed. I would have been on death row had i kept drinking. and now i quit smoking weed i feel my anger rising. it cost too much. and when i do things for free i can't afford it. My driving is excellent. i do not swerve and i am aware of all the drivers around me. i don't want to be hit by a distracted driver. and we all know there are plenty of them out there on the road. besides i do not have health insurance. i don't need a doctor bill. i speak my mind whether people like it or not. as for being poor i hate the thought of that dollar in which holds misery. lying, cheating, stealing, begging. and killing for it. even degrading yourself for it. it holds the blood of all who suffered for it. That is weed showed me as i contemplated life. lets just say i see the world because i do. weed just keeps me from hurting people. i don't have children but i hear the cries of the children of the future as governments keep borrowing putting the burden on your children making them a slave to the nation. i hear the soft voices of the preachers trying to get people to come to church. only for the money they live on. i am different. without the hell fire and brimstone of old i will not listen to them. condemnation is what people really need. i wish i were a preacher. i would not want your money. i think it would be an honor to speak for the lord. take that money and help someone. i come last in life.

There is no condemnation in Christ so no - that is not needed by anyone. If you wished you were a preacher then why not be one? And I have a million questions about you "quitting" after 50 years. I couldn't. When I quit, I had digestive issues and could not focus on work at all. Found gummies a few years ago and they have changed my life! The Bible has been manipulated and very soon the world will know this. When it happens - we will need men of God who perhaps don't call themselves "preachers" and don't have a building where people come to bring money. Religion is about to take on a whole new 'look'. So if you have any thoughts at all about spreading the gospel - you need to move forward with it. Don't let the fools of society turn you away. We've been deceived by religion and we need men with passion to disseminate the true Word - once we get the truth. If you don't already know you may benefit from going down a few rabbit holes. The vatican is the cult, and a lot of truths about our Creator was hidden under the vatican and someone (a few someone's) made certain that the truth would stay hidden. But the truth ALWAYS comes to light - always. Just like the truth about every plant we have been trained to label as a "weed". It's not just hemp and MJ that has been suppressed... the world is FULL OF God-made medicine! We've been dumbed down and conditioned to hate the "weeds" - not knowing that those weeds are medicines.

Broke my hip from a fall, used morphine in the hospital for 10 days, didn't want it so I got off of it. Once out of the hospital used indica cannabis and it helped me much more than morphine. I never had pain like that before and was pleasantly surprised to experience cannabis working better than morphine for pain.

I've never found cannabis to help with my back pain, same with my wife's fibro. I wish I understood how it works for some people. 5+ years of using and the only real benefit I got was tv is more enjoyable and making music is more fun. Initially it helped with sleep but diminishing returns after a couple of years. So much lethargy and feeling like crap the next day, focussing at work was hard. I should say it is good for anxiety, but that's a mixed bag for most people. Idk, I wish it were a miracle drug for me. I have insomnia, and anxiety, but I've run out of love for cannabis, at least for now. I'm taking a break while I go to Europe as I won't be able to get any there and coming off of it is a pain with high anxiety for a week or two. So I am on sabbatical before going until I get back. Maybe I'll come back to it for the anxiety at least.

I started my recovery at 250 lbs, lazy, fat and tired, today I am 205, I kickbox everyday, just completed my first Spartan race and am in the best shape of my life. Smoked daily maybe a gram a day for years. Eventually a noticeable correlation between my panic attacks/ general anxiety and my cannabis cannabis intake emerged. It took me a month or so to accept that bud was not helping but actually hindering me. So I quit and almost immediately the panic attacks became less and less frequent. Then I began working out more regularly, keeping up with nutrition/vitamins and getting more sunlight. But the most important thing I found to help mental health is to develop a healthy regiment. Small daily rituals do wonders for the brain and if you dont have a normal sleep schedule try to get your circadian rhythm normalized. Maybe one day you will have no need for the prescription meds. Good luck

Interesting video. As an MD and researcher in cannabinoids, I'd like to clarify that its important to reiterate that the cannabinoid receptors, although spread throughout the body, are highly centralized in the brain. Thus, as opposed to opioid receptors which are also spread through the body, but the mu receptors are located in the brain stem and control such things a autonomic functions such as respiratory response. This is why overdose occurs with opiates (in various doses related to tolerance) as is shuts down this system, and in my experience, it there has never been documentation of someone ingesting a fatal dose of cannabis, no matter how much is ingested (by common means). Great video though!

It isn't humanly possible. I know, I've tried for 21 years. I believe some "experts" surmised that it would take approximately 1,500 lbs of cannabis to be consumed within 15-30 minutes in order to cause a problem. Even in concentrated form, such as pure distillate, nobody could ingest that much in such a time frame.

That said: this was super interesting and I commend you guys for speaking freely about a topic that is seen as a taboo in many countries. I think it's wrong that scientists and researchers might find themselves inhibited studying similar fields because of a social stigma, and this is why this video's importance goes beyond information. @@danielz1666 It is kind of tolerated but still illegal. One police officer may throw the substance away and let you go, another one may issue a house inspection. I remember when I was in high school (this was almost 10 years ago, things might have changed) police officers came to our school with drug-sniffing dogs. One of my friend's friend got caught with some weed and they went to his house to check for more...this is terrifying to me: imagine being a teen and having police officers with dogs in your house, with your parents wondering what the hell is going on... I also don't know if this is actually true or not, but if there's a car accident and someone gets injured, you get tested for drugs. If they find even a tiny bit of drugs in your body, they treat you as if you did the accident while on drugs even if you were completely sober. As someone with PTSD as well a bunch of other problems, this helps me settle my anxiety down so My brain isn't boiling with noise. I can start thinking, start focusing on what's bothering me, look at it, take it apart, put it back together in a different order, take it apart again and put it back into the original state. In short, it allows me to deal with trauma normally. Before? I was very reactionary to my emotions. My brain taught me not to think, because every time I did, the traumatic event was still recent. Compounded by the fact that I have Obsessive Disorder, which is OCD without the compulsory desire to exhibit a tick to deal with the obsessive thought. Basically, I am a chronic circle thinker.

The endocannabinoid system took over my dreams for the first two years of my doctorate. You nailed it on the information! Fun fact: The 'high' you get from intense exercise (the "Runner's High") used to be attributed to an elevation in opioids. Works by Raichlin et al, and others, found that it's almost entirely the endocannabinoids activating, with almost the exact same effects as ingesting THC. So when you feel that 'high', it is quite literally a high.

I don't think so, I was a soccer player all my life and even though it's right that you feel high after resistance training, the effect of smoking/eating is a totally different bull. Have you ever smoked weed?

@@sd8c I used to run 3-5 miles regularly in the service... about daily. I only ever once got a "high", after a some odd 8-9 mile run. It takes ALOT to get there.

Was cool to see your passion and enthusiasm for the potential medicalimplications of THC and CBD near the end of the video. Shows you give a damn and are striving for people to prevail past traumas let alone all the other potentials.

Fascinating! I'm extremely curious about how imbibing THC and CBD in all the forms effects a person emotionally and physically. I smoked cannabis for the last 20 years and have recently quit for the last 30 days. Strangely enough it really wasn't that tough, but everyone's mileage on that will certainly vary. My experience and witnessing my friends who smoke it as well has been fairly similar. We all say "We gotta have that first buzz in the morning or I'll be frustrated or angry or can't control my emotions in general". I know that is just the addiction of Cannabis talking. It is clear as day. Long story short. Cannabis is like anything else and it should be done in moderation. I'm not a doctor or scientist by any means but people need to stop thinking that it as completely harmless. It really gets to you in your thoughts and decision making and emotional control. I feel so much more clear in the mind, I'm not nearly as easily agitated by small meaningless things. I feel as though Cannabis can be really good in the overall long-run of your life. If you kept it to a "treat" once every 2 weeks or per month. Daily use is just like anything else. Even if it is "Just a small amount" You can have too much of a good thing. I also noticed that the things that it helps with start turning against you with daily use. It helps a persons appetite but eventually you lose your appetite altogether. It can make you have creative thoughts and ideas. That slowly turns into slothful thinking and blanking out. And the one I dislike the most; It messes with your short term memory for sure!!! Things need to pass through your short term memory to reach your long term memory. Which is for all intents purposes; How you learn things and make it stick. Besides what is life for a Human but memories in your mind. Cannabis messes with your memory and that should be cause for concern. Stay thirsty with Cannabis my friends. It would be a wise decision. Edit: I recently learned: for Men your Testosterone levels are slowly lowered over time. This causes an entire range of problems when your Testosterone lowers. I didn't read this part but I'm willing to bet that effects your mood. Not entirely responsible for it but definitely a factor with the "grumpys". Not to mention you need testosterone to get a boner fellas and a whole host of other things that testosterone is needed for. Cannabis may do a few good things. At what cost? Also read some of the comments below for comments from people with actual serious health issues that Cannabis has helped. I can get behind that and understand that. This would be a small percentage of people tho, similar to not everyone needs to be on a different medicine because it is good for another. Most people smoking everyday are perfectly healthy otherwise.

I smoked it just enough to start hating being sober. *that* was the moment I realised i may be on the precipice of a problem, an addiction. Same with drinking. I haven't done either for years now. "Cannnabis isn't addictive, you idiot! Its not like crack." Well, it may not be chemically addictive in and of itself, but the effects and act of using can be addictive and thus cannabis can be addictive. It isn't rocket surgery. I'm legitimately tired of the pseudo intellectualism of *a lot* of users. They act as if they're so informed, and yet, basic psychology evades them. We all have our blind spots though, it's understandable, but the arrogance isn't tolerable. You have to accept it when you have your own blind spots revealed, and then put in the work to see what you missed. No single individual has the full picture, science is a community effort.

Saying that, I have been tempted to start smoking again. But shit has gotten so potent since I last touched it, it's actually kinda frightening. I'm not afraid of getting high, but shit, weed shouldn't blow your head off after only half a joint. I like it chill, I can smoke a joint and just bask in that warm afterglow. Lemon haze is my favourite, if I could get some of that where I'm at, I'd gladly have it as a monthly treat. The UK is shit for it though, it's all just the most potent shit available, and it legitimately smells bad, no way I'm fucking with that shit.

My experience has been similar. I quit after 20 years because I started getting a little nagging cough which terrified me. I also hate the little smokers wrinkles it gave me around my eyes. I've always felt kind of like a slave to weed because I didn't feel normal until I smoked that first blunt in the morning and couldn't even vacation without it because I wouldn't even have an appetite unless I smoked. After that cough started I just quit cold turkey and it was surprisingly easy. I wish I did it a lot sooner. Once I was completely clean I had no desire to feel that high anymore which is even more surprising since my husband is still a very heavy smoker. My thoughts are much more clear now, I'm more motivated, and have a normal appetite again. I do feel like cannibas is as addictive as sugar, food, and any other moderate vice and can easily be used in excess. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing and I'm glad I rid myself of that cycle of addiction. My lungs will thank me in the long run and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

I recently quit smoking cannabis very suddenly after 23 years of chronic(pun intended) use. I became curious about mitigating if not stopping because I didn't like some of the effects; lethargia, introversion, binge eating, reduced cardiovascular endurance(I'm an endurance athlete), to name the most obvious. Keep in mind this was my subjective experience and not specific to anyone else. But given it was my experience, however perceptual it may be, I didn't want it anymore. I listened to a podcast by Andrew huberman on the effects of cannabis on the brain and through my own conclusion based on the science related, especially that I believe I'm naturally high in prolactin and that seems to relate to some of my "issues", I quit suddenly. For the first 3wks I had extreme insomnia, lowered appetites and irritability, to name a few "challenges". It's been about 2mo now and all of that has subsided. I used to rely on cannabis to manage depression, now I no longer do. But the biggest change? My dreams!! They are so frequent and vivid that I look forward to going to sleep. I've never dreamed like this! Has anyone experienced something similar? Can anyone explain the reasoning behind the increased REM & deep sleep that are enabling me to not only experience more dreaming, but recall them as if they were reality. It's by far my favorite part of quitting, minus the quick increase in lung capacity. Thanks for reading!

This resonates with me and is so inspiring. I’ve been a long time cannabis user for the past 12 years and definitely experience all of the effects you described, plus getting dreams back after stopping for a bit. I’ve gone back and forth between daily use and taking breaks up to 60 days. How’s your use going? What helped you to stay the course?

I gave up because it gave me a mini stroke or TIA, as my doctor believed that's what caused it . Suffered terrible nausea for about 2 months and am now racked with chronic nerve pain for about 7yrs ever since I gave up. I used to daily dose since about 20yrs old to 37yrs and firmly believed it had a negative effect on my nervous system that has never gone away. I don't think it's as harmless as people think especially if you research on the link between usage and TIA even in people as young as 20yrs old. Some of that research is quite scary.

This helps me understand what's going on and how it works. I have never done cannabis before. So it all so new to me. Thank you
