Isn't it fascinating those who wished to be a doctor as a teenager but couldn't be one, are able to grasp the knowledge that they always wanted to learn 👍
@ginnyjollykidd
@ginnyjollykidd 3 жыл бұрын
Teens are smart. I myself would peruse a medical encyclopedia when I was 10, and I followed everything about the featured picture series of an appendectomy. By high school I was learning about amino acids and proteins and DNA, and antibodies and their structures besides. And cancer. And when I got to college to be a doctor, the Zoology BS degree was a shoe - in for medical school. I didn't get into med school- I went a different direction-but I took the exact requirements for med school and quite a bit more and graduated with a solid BS.

@Floofy Chicken We need more good doctors. I think especially family doctors. For people like me who might outlive a healthcare worker or 2. I've already been through the retirement of several doctors I've grown up with, and I've been handed off from 2 wonderful doctors to 2 more wonderful doctors in the practices. It's an occupational hazard as an older patient. But consistency is great. And a doctor that knows the family is invaluable!
@ginnyjollykidd

@Floofy Chicken Do take courses you like as well as pre - med requirements. They are necessary to your personal and professional flourishing. For me, I took Marching Band. Also, I adored the German classes I took. I was a member of the German Honor Society (and Pre-med Honor Society), and, had I taken one more semester with 2 more German classes, I would have completed A German minor as well. (My German friend assured me, though, that my German was fluent enough to get along once I get to Germany -a bucket list travel item of mine.) But do what's right for you. For me, it was necessary to finish ASAP. Degree in hand. Besides, I was getting spring fever. Had I realized I could take Japanese - only a single credit hour - I might have taken one more semester, gotten that German minor, and taken another language that I wanted to take. I didn't realize Japanese was less complicated than Chinese. But find your passion! And make sure you confer often enough with your department head. They can help you plan your course, focus your direction, and steer you to avenues that can help you on your way. Talk to your professors about your ideas. In fact, interact with your professors often. If you are invited to join an honor society, join. Be wary of sororities. While they give great service, it can possibly eat into your school time. Balance is key. Do go to honor society functions and the meet and greet things. Often there are snacks, and you get to see people like deans, president, and provost. I love to hobnob at these! Much good studying and college - ing to you!

I had a left inguinal hernia repair that didn't require mesh, the surgeon just stitched the muscle back together. Absolutely fascinating. i have had inguinal hernia repair on my left side. I like most men find this hernia on their own as it is quite obvious. After talking with my primary care Dr. and then my surgeon, I was left with a vague understanding of both what it was and what they were going to do to fix it. Not that it would have changed my mind or the process, but I wish I had seen this video before hand. I find this series absolutely addicting. So many things here explained in understandable detail, in a way that most people with an average curiosity can grasp. The manner with which the program is presented makes it both informative and entertaining. Thank you. P.s. The music is a distraction. This program stands on its own with no need of a prop.

I definitely know what hernias are! I've had a hiatial hernia, umbilical hernia, and 4 incisional hernias. I actually had the wrong type of mesh put inside me one time and it started causing me extreme pain because it had actually stuck to part of my small intestines which caused me to undergo another surgery by a different surgeon. He had to shave off part of my small intestines to get the mesh a loose from it and I had 2 incisional hernias that to be repaired as well because of that mesh. 😢

There is a very slight chance that the intestine becomes twisted, or the bladder gets knicked if the surgery is done quickly ( emergency) but the odds of damage are very slight.
@shaunakchimote9884

Actually uterus grows and pushes the organs above their original position, so when you open the abdomen for a c-section, there's just the uterus beneath the abdominal wall and no other organ available for damage.

Wish their was some helping info of this matter. All good though: I have become more aware of my own anatomy due to the years of hunting down helpful tips for relieving pain!!! Wish the best to all that live with injuries and stay strong ( we all do have pride for surviving ) and yes I live every other day with my small intestine getting incarcerated in my groin! No fun but I have survived with this! God bless and Amen to all.

I’ve got a hernia caused by having a colostomy bag for six months. It’s over on the left side of my abdomen where the opening was made by a Surgeon who saved my life when my colon ruptured in 2017. I had a successful colostomy reversal surgery in 2018. Now where the opening was made and sewed shut after the surgeon reattached my colon and routed me back normal, I’ve noticed this protrusion there. It doesn’t cause me any pain, but I hate the way my abdomen looks misshapen there.

Question #1: when a man has an Inguinal Hernia protruding outside the body, How can you tell if it's a Inguinal Ligament Hernia? Or a Intestinal Hernia? i’m 15 years old 105lbs female- anyway i had a hernia in my lower pelvic area it was inguinal in my groin and idk why but anyway i had it for years and it was bad and i never told anyone about it and i had to get surgery in august 2019. thus didn’t plan on using mesh but ended up having to. the recovery was okay but it obviously sucked and i had marching band camp exactly a week later and it was so painful. anyway, if you have a hernia and you don’t know what it is and you are scared to tell somebody, just tell someone because it could potentially be life threatening and it’s better to just get the surgery out of the way. okie bye

But this guy confirmed hot people can be doctors too, kudos on both mind and body simultaneous development. My sisters hernia became strangulated and it almost killed her. For the longest time she didn't even KNOW she had a hernia as there was no pain involved. When it first started to strangulate she just ignored the pain as it wasn't unmanagable. She's like me and has a pretty high pain tolerance. Well, after about 2 weeks of slowly increasing pain, everything finally came to a head. She noticed that the area around her bellybutton was starting to bruise while she was at work and it was really tender to the touch. Like I said, she has a pretty high pain tolerance, so she opted to just finish her shift and go to the doctor afterwards. Every hour or so she would check the bruising and she noticed it was steadily spreading and the pain was getting a lot sharper. Maybe halfway through her shift she started sweating profusely, her energy levels were getting sapped, and she was getting winded just walking around. At that point one of the other employees made her sit down and called an ambulance. Just before they arrived she ended up passing out in the chair and they couldn't wake her up. They got her loaded up and drove to the hospital as fast as they could. She stopped breathing twice on the way. They took her straight into surgery when they got there and found that part of her large intestine had gotten strangulated and it was in a very advanced stage of rot since she ignored it for so long. That rotten material caused her to go septic. They got everything fixed up and after about a week they finally let her go home. She had a pretty good sense of humor about everything and warned everyone she could about the dangers of pushing when you have to take a shit LOL

There was a video on KZbin that I watched where they did an autopsy on an obese cadaver, showing the effects on the organs. I don't know why but what bothered me most was when the abdominal fat was described as being like butter and really slippy. Honestly can't look at my tummy the same way. Butterbelly.
