To be honest it sounds like more a semantics issue than a big I.D issue; when people mention ADDIE I don't think they care whether it's a model or a framework (maybe they should), they're alluding to ensuring that the phases are actually part of the project. "Did you start designing before research was completed?" etc. That's really it, in my experience.

Oh I agree it should just be simple semantics but then you have books about leaving ADDIE, which while just a gimmick phrase, makes it all so confusing.

EXACTLY! The bad thing is professors today refer to the "ADDIE model" so students think it has to be the gospel truth and makes it hard to communicate with them about work.

Tbh, I’m not quite sure if this is really a problem. It sounds like a semantics issue that has little impact. I think there’s a general understanding of what people mean when they use the term “ADDIE” whether the word that follows is “framework” or “model.” People will say SAM when they mean SAM, and agile when they mean agile. Who cares as long as they know what they’re talking about? This is one of my favorite channels, so please don’t misinterpret, but I think when you say that a simple semantics issue is a “disservice to the field,” it sounds like gatekeeping. It’s like when designers get so angry about job posts asking for “artists” when they really mean “designers.” Of course there’s a difference, but if you understand what the other person is saying, then we don’t have to correct every layperson we meet. It just makes us sound like know-it-alls who are more concerned about the exclusivity of our profession rather than actually getting good results. I personally would not use this as a metric for the quality of someone’s education or experience.

It wasnt until I started getting IDs telling me they were using the ADDIE model but really knew no model costing me time/money that I realized this was a problem.

@@RaymePastore Respectfully, “no model” sounds like a different issue. :)

The Army calls it the ADDIE Process and it is described in TRADOC Pamphlet 350-70-14. and TRADOC Regulation 350-70. If I remember correctly, ADDIE was developed for military training. So when FSU created it, it was for the Army then and now.
