I don't know what it is with those videos but you have a way of making it look way more complicated than it is really. Am I the only one ? Maybe I don't see it the same way you do because of experience and training. What's your opinion ?

@kevinwarren39985 жыл бұрын
Don’t worry about getting rusty. Get the ticket and anytime you go somewhere file IFR. Make all the communications, preparation, etc. automatic. Ask for an approach even on VMC days (if ATC isn’t too busy) and it’ll help with briefing and switchology. Doesn’t have to be IMC for that. Address the IMC part/proficiency as required.

In regard to that last wilco bit, I had an intro ATC class during my pilot training and there it was explained that "roger" and "wil-co" are valid pilot responses but if the pilot misheard the instruction and thus don't comply its a pilot deviation. If the pilot does read back and the info was wrong and the controller doesn't correct it then the pilot is only required to do what they had read back and any resulting issues, like loss of separation, will be on the controller.

Great video! Hmm, ATC IFR clearance sometimes to me sounds like a contest, if the pilot is capable of writing down all the details as fast as he can and who can't do so looses and has to buy the controller a beer. Your buddy was right by saying "they fire it at you". I wonder if there is a special meaning behind the faaaast talk of ATC. Is it just a time saving issue? Anyway, keep up the great work!
@Valantir5 жыл бұрын
The fast talk, is basically because you're blocking anyone else from talking. He's gotta get done giving you the clearance because I'm holding short of 18 waiting to go and hoping to get out before that 172 from the local FTU turns base to final and I have to wait for another touch and go.

No. The safest mode when flying a departure WITH TWO PILOTS is manually. Yes, to his credit he said he flys manually once a week, but I'm old school. Stick and rudder in VFR conditions, autopilot when single pilot IFR. Thanks for all you do.....

This isn’t an airline scenario. My reply was geared to this flight.
@Valantir5 жыл бұрын
Yes but seeing as general aviation's safety record is abysmal compared to airline operations, it makes sense to emulate how they operate. On an IFR departure absolutely the safest way is coupled autopilot.
@normk57615 жыл бұрын
Andrew, all I’m saying is whenever a situation allows, hand flying should be the default. VFR conditions with two pilots, equals, at least to me, an opportunity to practice a flight where an autopilot has failed or is otherwise unavailable.
