Two things amaze me about this piece ( and the rest of " Guernica " ) - the first is the playing ( obviously ) but the second is the fact that people SO young can compose a work that perfectly captures in music ( as does Picasso in his iconic painting ) the terrible events of the fateful day on the 26th April 1937 when the whole town was destroyed and hundreds killed during the Spanish Civil War when it was bombed at Franco's behest by the German Luftwaffe . It really is worth checking out the story if you plan to do any more from " Guernica " because although these are wonderful pieces of stand alone music the genius of them shines even brighter when they are put in context ENJOY !

GUERNICA is basically a rock opera. I always listen to this album as a single piece. The names of the songs provide a hint to what we should look for when listening to these parts.

Love, love, love this version of Church! What a perfect performance from this young and extremely talented trio. Thanks for reacting to this. More Asterism, please! 🤘PS I put a comment on your Band-Maid double reaction yesterday, just a copy of Kanami's post about why she wrote those songs and what they mean - but I mentioned the other social media site where she'd posted her comments so it got obliterated! I reposted without the references so it might be there now. Kanami posted about the whole album, song by song, and it's a great insight.

A beautiful song! The talent is among the best out there today. I got to see them in a show when I went to Japan and it was even more amazing to see them in person. They are really nice as well. after the show I was standing to the side of the entrance when they came out and stood next to me. I was able to chat, using Google Translator, for a few minutes with them.

Miyu the bassist has been rocking his custom 7 string bass since he was 14. I believe it's an ESP (corrected) that was custom-made for him and is not even even in their catalog. I just found a cover of a Baby Metal that the band made about 10 years ago when they were at an average age 14. I've seen earlier practice session videos showing how dedicated these young masters were playing their instruments. They are well worth watching. I've seen them live in NY and they have as much stage presence as any seasoned pros around. Insanely talented. Ibanez Ibanez

It's a rare treat to listen to such a young band that is able to display so much raw emotion in their playing. There is a video out there of them playing their own composition when they were 12-13-15, and you can hear and see that they are already something special. This is from the Prog side of the band. They have such a great command of music theory and composition. Miyu really shines here and you see why ESP made a custom made one of a kind 7 string bass just for him. Dawn LIVE will blow you away (make sure you do the LIVE version) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKa0gal_g6-Wd5I and be ready for a pair of 16 year old musicians to blow your mind. Great reaction as always.

Dannnnnggggg.... So that one was new for me. Loved it. I haven't explored them yet, but I'm sure as heck going to now. Already threw a bunch of their songs onto the playlist for later. Love a good instrumental, and that one was top tier. The dude's bass looked like he was carrying a guzheng. That Chinese stringed instrument that looks like a small bench you plop down in front of you and play with a metal ring pick. Huge.

Church is beautiful and such a mature composition. I agree with everyone recommending Dawn next. I recommend the version on the "Takako" KZbin channel. It's a fancam so the sound isn't perfect, but it's such a special performance that it's worth it. It's actually my favourite piece of music. Plus Takako's been supporting them for a long time and will almost certainly show up in the comments to thank you for watching her channel.

Since you mentioned Stevie, there's a live video out there where Asterism covers SRV's "Scuttle Buttin" in Dallas. I think Hal-Ca was 16 or 17 when they played it. Another cover they did is "Jump" by Van Halen; it's unreal, especially Miyu's part. Definitely put that one on the list. It's on their channel.

If you want to hear them sing, try the MV for Shooting Star or the MV for The Titan from the EP Planet of Metal project with the graphic artist Acky Bright. The Shooting Star video is a cool montage of footage from a trip to the US that shows some of their personality and includes clips of them in concert and busking on the street.

You have to do _Dawn_ next, of course. But you should also give their cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan's _Scuttle Buttin'_ a try. Asterism has made many really great and interesting covers, adding their own flair to them all. But Scuttle Buttin' is probably my favorite. I like it even more than the original, I think. Not too fond of the drum solo, which is maybe a bit self-indulgent and uninspired, but Haruka's shreddy solo towards the end really elevates the song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKWlkImojrGFl68si=4Ls2vLof_FrJxxPU

And thus endeth the sermon about Prog Rock/Metal by Asterism. The Gringa said it perfectly that listening and watching Miyu play is like the bass has become a different instrument. Hal-ca incorporates her whole body into her playing and that adds to the emotion one feels. With Hal-ca and Miyu it’s easy to overlook Mio, the drummer, so I’m glad you mentioned him. If you read comment sections on any of their videos or reaction to them videos he really doesn’t get mentioned enough. I know your watch list is probably growing exponentially but here’s some more Japanese groups and songs. Glim Spanky which is one of my favourite band names ever. “Breaking Down Blues” is a fave of mine. TRiDENT. “Ambivalent” or “Spoopy” (how can you not love a song name like that lol. REI. I’ve only recently been listening to her so I don’t have enough of a catalogue to recommend anything. Just a few for your ever growing list. 😊 A bassist who was at the start of extended techniques is Stanley Clarke.
