The Black Album is the eighth album by American rapper Jay-Z. It came out on November 14, 2003, under Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Recordings. It was promoted as his last album before retiring, which is a theme in many of the songs, but Jay-Z returned to making music in 2005. For this album, Jay-Z wanted to work with a different producer for each song. He collaborated with Just Blaze, Kanye West, the Neptunes, Eminem, DJ Quik, Timbaland, 9th Wonder, Rick Rubin, and others. Pharrell Williams also makes a guest appearance on the album.
