Insulate Britain: School-run mum who drove at protesters banned from driving

A woman has been banned from driving after using her Range Rover to try to move Insulate Britain protesters who were blocking the road while she was on the school run.
Sherrilyn Speid, from Essex, pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to dangerous driving over the incident last October.
The 35-year-old, who appeared for sentencing at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, was disqualified from driving for a year, handed a community order and ordered to pay a total of £240.
Prosecutor Ashley Petchey said three demonstrators were sitting across the road and queues of traffic had built up behind them. Speid got out of her vehicle and “remonstrated” with the protesters, the court heard. The scene was caught on camera by a passer-by and the footage quickly went viral online.
Speaking to James Whale, Sherrilyn Speid said: "They suggested that I go to prison for 15 months. I thought it was illegal to block the road."

Here in Texas we have State Bill HB250 that says " Sec.A72A.001.A INJURY TO PROTESTOR. (a) A person operating a motor vehicle who injures another person with the motor vehicle is not liable for the injury if, at the time of the injury: (1)A The person operating the motor vehicle was exercising due care; and (2)A The person injured was blocking traffic in a public right-of-way while participating in a protest or demonstration..." Also, should person glue their hand to the pavement the citizenry and Police Officers are absolved prosecution if the necessity of ripping their hand off the roadway is required as it is for their own safety. Also, as guaranteed by our Second Amendment to the US Constitution, we can legally carry a firearm if trained and certified. As such, we tend to have very few traffic protests here in Texas. I accept that 2 wrongs don't make a right but the most that this delightful lady should have got was three points on her licence and the standard fine for driving without due care. I know this was a year ago and I'm not even british (I'm portuguese), but for me this is absolutely ridiculous. she didn't do any dangerous driving at all, she warned them several times and just run forward a few inches in a controled way to avoid injuring them. So they were not injured at all, just scared. It's completely unfair to ban her from driving and fined her in such amount. In my country these protestors have no chance at all, they tried 2 or 3 times and were violently dragged away by drivers and later fined for blocking the road. If one day i come across that kind of situation i will not react violently, but if I 'm taking a sick relative of mine to the hospital and they won't let me go through, then I will grab a stick and send them to the hospital themselves.

It's like jailing someone because they were being unlawfully held hostage against their will where their life was in danger and so manage to break free from their captives even if it involves breaking a few skirting boards etc for an escape route! In many ways it's the same principal as for example it is legal within reason and as an absolute last resort to break a car window where if a dog is kept in the car on a scorching hot day for any excessive length of the time if it would otherwise mean the dog would fatally pass out frm dehydration because the car/dog owner cannot be traced in time to save it's life.
