In this short video I show how I insulate a small Ford Connect SWB van which I am converting in to a micro campervan. I remove all the ply panels from the van and clean the metalwork, then fit a mixture of 25mm & 50mm Celotex in the side panels. I insulate the campervan roof with Jablite insulation, cutting around the skylight. I also use Jablite insulation for the rear doors as I had enough spare from the roof. Each panel leaves a small air gap between the ply panel and the insulation boards which will allow the Celotex insulation to work at its best.

Excellent and informative video. I'm going to copy exactly what you did, on my Connect. Thanks for taking the time to make and upload this.

Great video. Anyone else think the guy sounds like Matt from Blue Peter? Literally has a campervan he's made earlier too...

Why do you prefer the jablite for the ceiling? It looks thinner than the celotex; wouldn't you want the thickest insulation in the ceiling?

I've just found the Jablite works well on the roof and considering the roof is permanently ventilated via the skylight, it seemed pointless stuffing more expensive celotex up there. The Jablite is still 25mm and fits nicely under the headlining

Camper Conversion I see: it leaves more headroom. Makes sense.

Can you use foam in those crevices? Tape off most of the holes except one, as long as there is nothing like wires or moving parts? I have fixed windows. Want to have it done before spring.

you can as long as the area will never need welding as foam and welding don't mix

like the idea of not using rockwool etc.

I never use rockwool, it absorbs moisture and can rot panels from the inside out

I've noticed that you chose to cover all the metal work with foil tape on an earlier T4 video, but you've omitted that step in the more recent videos. Is there any particular reason? I'm just about to start on my Ford Connect SWB and considering options. Fantastic channel by the way, excellent videos!

I didn't apply it to the Hijet as some panels already had foam insulation on them which I left in place, adding more insulation on top. When it came round to the Ford, I just forgot about it. I'm sure it will help a little bit but its not a necessary requirement as Celotex is double foil lined anyway, it might have just helped reflect more heat back in.

Camper Conversion thanks for the info. I've decided to foil tape all the bare metal parts that aren't covered in celotex. Hopefully the carpet and adhesive will fix to the foil tape okay

I’ve been watching Mevi an English guy who documented his van on YT. He used Rockwool which he sealed with a 50:50 PVA glue solution. He then covered the Rockwool with heavy duty plastic. I tend to feel your Celotex/Jablite method is cleaner. I feel that Rockwool is prone to issues from damp. I wonder if you have an opinion on this? BTW if at all possible can you recommend a Van forum for UK based van life.

I only ever use the boards, easier to use, neater to look at and they create their own vapour barrier if joined together with foil tape. There are lots of vans forums on Facebook or google what you’re looking for as I’m sure they’ll be some dedicated sites too

I wouldn't be happy using Jablite where a gas bottle/car crash fire would be lethal.
@TheCampervanBuilder
@TheCampervanBuilder 4 жыл бұрын
Generally a gas bottle car crash could be lethal regardless of insulation used

you attach the celotex using the tape? what tape is it? why don't you use celotex on roof as well?
@TheCampervanBuilder
@TheCampervanBuilder 6 жыл бұрын
Just metal foil tape is used to stick in place, jablite works nicely for roofing
